So the Angie's pick KUT black ponte skinnies arrived today. Good news is that they fit, the fabric is nice (not itchy!), and they are comfy. No photos yet, as I really need natural light to photograph black pants.

However, I'm wondering if I actually need ponte pants at all. I would actually be replacing an old dead pair of similar looking (but lower quality) ponte pants. I did wear those so I know I can style them. But I'm not sure how versatile or redundant they are. On my body type knit skinnies, no matter their size, are going to be body con, and I worry about them appearing leggingish. It's weird, it's like how they cling to my knees and calves that gives that leggings feeling. Anyway, this means I'm not comfortable wearing them with non-butt covering tops, thus limiting versatility. The other thing is that I also have my grey COH jeggings, which are similarly body con but because of their fabric they don't look like leggings. I would say they are similar in comfort. Any outfit with the pontes would also work with the grey jeggings.

What the pontes won't work for for me is as a black cigarette pant alternative (I want to replace my martins). For that, I'd need a woven pant. I think it's telling that all my favorite skinnies (Vince denim, wit and wisdom brocade, joes plaid) are woven with low stretch. They are fitted but not clingy, and the material has some structure that I feel is lacking with the ponte pants.

So what do you think? Is there a place for pontes in my wardrobe? For those who own ponte skinnies, how do you style them and do you find them versatile?

ETA: added some pics. They are only styled cursorily; I chose a top that is shorter than I would probably wear with these pants so you could see more detail, and the Fluevogs are the only boots that aren't packed away right now. Last photo is the Martin skinnies for comparison; I still like those a lot but they are too hot most of the time.
