First off many many thanks to the incredibly talented Brooklyn for sharing her beautiful projects and kindly offering advice and encouragement on my wee undertaking!

The cotton sweater (below in finds) was a deep goldenrod colour. Not my best yellow, and subsequently not really earning it’s share of my closet real estate.

Initially, I wanted to dye it a denimy blue shade. To achieve better colour results I tried to remove the yellow colour using the RIT colour remover…absolutely no change!

Brooklyn had a couple of suggestions for me on working with the existing goldenrod colour. I abandoned the dream of a blue sweater, and purchased a bottle of neon green so I could try to turn the sweater a more yellow green…maybe even chartreuse.

RIT does have formula charts, but I decided to use the whole bottle of neon green given that the sweater was really strongly yellow.

Not quite the colour I was going for, but definitely wearable. When I get tired of it I know what to do to switch it up! I am pleased how evenly the dye is distributed throughout the sweater, although ( see pic) I see a slight shading in the neck roll. My darling merman would not let me use the washing machine ( I don’t blame him, I’m a bit of a klutz), so I used a plastic bin. Pro tip, check that your bin is water tight. I’m just glad I did this in the basement. Another tip, once you remove the bottle cap, do not shake the bottle as the inner cap is not fixed securely. Just glad I decided to wear my painting clothes.

My thanks again to Brooklyn!
