Since visiting New York last year I have become somewhat obsessed with the Chanel Verdura Byzantine style cuffs. You can read about them here:

They retail in the $1,000s. Even Kenneth J Lane versions go for close to a $1,000. I also tried out a similar version from YOOX (which still wasn’t that cheap) but it was too big for my wrist.

Anyway, enter my husband, who is ridiculously handy. He has recently taken up working in resin as a hobby. (For a while he made coin rings. He learns it all from YouTube.) He suggested he could make me a resin cuff or bangle in the style of Dinosaur Designs (a popular arty jewellery maker here).

But I suggested we go Byzantine! Although the original Chanel cuffs are enamel (pic 2), I’d also seen some versions that looked like resin (pics 3-4) and I had an idea that we could achieve a similar look by attaching a Byzantine style brooch to a resin cuff.

He made me a big cuff in titanium white with a pearl lustre. (I wanted white but we may do a black and a gold version next.) I sacrificed an inexpensive but pretty vintage brooch to serve as its adornment. He attached it. (I’m just artistic director here.)

Pic 1 and 5-6 show how it turned out. Isn’t it amazing for a first attempt? Gotta figure out how I’m going to wear it now. It’s quite the statement. What do you think?
