Gucci knew exactly what they were doing when they designed this sweater. Furthermore, they thought it would appeal to their clientele.

I am offended on so many different levels. I am offended by the company and the people that designed this sweater. I am especially offended by the fact they thought this sweater would sell. I keep imagining who their clients are and what they stand for.

Oh ugh, not them too.

I have a vintage secondhand Gucci bag (absolutely no visible branding on it, which is my preference), and I’m not getting rid of it, but this will certainly make me think twice about supporting that label in the future (as I have now also reconsidered Prada after their recent similar stunt).

It looks really stupid. I am sure they knew the sweater would be much talked about...but I think it attracted much more negative then positive (or neutral) comments.

I agree with lyn67. They had to know about the backlash against the other designers on similar issues. This is disgusting.

I don't have the words.

Many designers from exclusive luxury brands behave SOOO BADLY it makes me sick, and ashamed. Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Dior, Gucci - all the same. And Karl Lagerfeld is extremely insulting and rude. They are far removed from reality and so very, very NOT COOL. They no longer have my support.

Rrrrrrrrr! Yes, I'm quite sure they did it deliberately, especially since it's Black History Month, and are looking to attract the sort of customer that thinks its acceptable.
My first thought was it looks like Pradas little figurines, and the second was "white hood at the cleaners and too lazy for black makeup but still want to insult people? Guccis got you sorted."

This is so sad for the world and offensive. I had hoped that, as a society, we were past such meanness. Shame on Gucci and on anyone who would buy or wear something so offensive.

I too find myself speechless. Besides being upset, disappointed and disgusted......I don't know why I continue to be shocked at the unbelievable IGNORANCE of so many companies. Ditto Angie on the incredible BAD BEHAVIOR AND THINKING of out of touch designers and their companies.

Sad, offensive, and annoying. It’s as though these designers exist in some kind of bubble, far away from the real world. But doesn’t anyone with a brain ever vet their ideas? What kind of marketing department do they have?

Okay, I often think, in regard to designer clothing (not all of it but really, sometimes it just looks like a $5000 burlap sack)--"who in the #$#@&? would buy this crap?"....and then this came out. NO ONE SHOULD WANT TO BUY THIS CRAP. Sorry ...had to yell a little.

Suz took the words right out of my mouth. As abhorrent as this is, thank you for bringing it to our attention. The only way to fight intolerable speech is with more speech. Let our voices and consumer choices be heard.

Situations like this and the Prada incident are ongoing proof that there is no one of colour represented in the upper echelons of fashion and that designers are painfully out of touch at best, blatantly racist at worst.

But please let's not think that lower priced stores are immune from this sort of thing. How about H&M's "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle" hoodie modeled by a boy of colour? And women fall all over themselves about loving Zara, but how about their bag with the swastikas? How about their children's striped shirt with the yellow star (death camp chic?)? How about their shirt exclaiming White is the New Black? This isn't a one-off thing for Zara (or H&M, for that matter). It is pervasive in fashion, regardless of price point.
