Curvy maxi -- buy or leave?

Loved this dress when I saw it on a blog, maxi dresses for curves. Just went on sale @ Nordstrom. Should I take it or leave it?

Well, it makes my day when I find something on sale that I've already been hankering for. Also, I like the cut of the top part a lot. And I love that bluish teal.

I would be too self-conscious to wear a maxi, but that's just me--if you wouldn't, and if you loved it before you found it on sale, that sounds like it was meant to be.

I would leave it! I don't particularly like the way the top fits. But this is just my opinion.

I like it but it looks pretty formal to me... that is my problem with most maxis, though. Do you love it?

I did buy it, but I reserve the right to return. I hadn't thought of the formal aspect. I'll have to think about that, because I do tend to fall into the trap of buying nicer things that I never have the occasion to wear. There's a short version in a slightly different color/pattern that might be more wearable. Thanks for the comments, and keep them coming pro/con!

I think it looks beautiful on you. I would wear it to spring/summer outdoor functions such as graduation, bridal/baby showers or any party that is a step up from casual including indoor functions that are similar. I also see it a a great Hawaiian vacation dress. I love the neckline and colors

You look beautiful! I do agree that maxis, and dresses in general, flatter a curvy shape (and I speak from experience here). I also think the others are right that this dress reads a little more formal and retro than some, which, for the right occasion can really work. If your goal is to wear a cool, flowing dress to a picnic, or a girls night out, I'd keep looking. There is a lot to choose from this season!

I think the dress looks great on you! You can totally do the casual maxi. For some people, a long dress/skirt will always mean formal, but if you're comfortable in it, then absolutely go for it!

I like it! It's definitely a bold print and a super sexy fit. It looks somewhat boho-luxe to me (and has a 70s vibe to it)! If you love it, I say go for it!

I agree with the 70's glam vibe - but if you are ready to work with that, it's a beautiful dress. It's more fitted on you than the model pic you linked to - which is kind of upping the sexiness/ emphasizing your curves. Size up if you want to go more casual? Or keep it and wear it with pride

You look great in that dress! It's a gorgeous dress; I tried it on and loved it but was worried I didn't have anywhere to wear it. I ended up buying a more casual maxi to give it a bash, as Angie would say (though maybe not about Maxis!)

I love the dress and the colors. The only thing I'm hesitant about is the way the dress looks in the shoulder area. Maybe a cropped, short- or 3/4-sleeved black jacket (I'm thinking cotton sateen here, or some other black summerweight fabric that would have a sheen to it) would do the trick?

This is exactly the kind of maxi shape I love -- streamlined -- and I think the fit, print, and colors look great on you.

Do you need the belt to add shape? I don't know that it's adding anything. I might try without (could be cooler, temp wise) or look for a wider belt.

Anyway, I'm "if you'd wear it, buy it." I have a couple (one ancient!) and I wear mine around for casual errands or eating out. Maxis = sun protection + style in my world, ha. This one looks super-easy to dress up or down to me.

My husband hates it. I also realized that the underarm part is very loose and gapey, so it's going back. The maxi dress search continues!
