Cropped sweater over a pencil skirt - and new booties.

Had a minute to play dress up this afternoon (and bribed my 10 year old to take pics). Tried out the cropped sweater over a straight skirt formula from a couple of days ago.

I don't feel like it worked for me - is the sweater too long? Too chunky? Too dated (it's definitely vintage)? Or the skirt not narrow enough or too long? Do the booties work with this length of a skirt?

Or maybe my eye just isn't used to this look.

Also, my new (to me, free) booties, also vintage, with two pull on tabs. Can I wear them this way, or should I cut off the front tab if I want to wear something that would show the tops of the booties.

The colors are lovely on you and the booties do a great job of bookending your hair. I'm not a good judge of this look. But I think the sweater may be just a tad too long and maybe needs to be more fitted to your body some place. The skirt also looks a bit too big on you...maybe narrowed some and tapered in at the bottom. If the skirt were more fitted I think the length works.

Oh, such pretty colors together and such a pretty blue on you! I think there's potential here, and yes, I'd remove that front boot tab! It's a little eye-catching.

I agree with Joy about the skirt needing to be shorter - bring it up to your knee cap? Then I might blouse the sweater just a little to raise it too.

I'm one that prefers semi-sheer tights with skirts and booties, so I'd add some brown ones, and some brown necklaces to complete the look.

I agree with the comments above. It can be very hard to judge a new look on oneself, so great idea to take pics for suggestions.

This has the bones of a superb outfit. Sweater isn't cropped tho, and I think is a tad big. I'd think of it as a slouchy sweater and wear it as such - ie, go narrow on the bottom. Skirt also looks a little big and long. The boots are great, but now that you mention it, I'd maybe cut the tabs off.

You have a ten year old ?!? You look so young! I would cut off the tabs, os else just save them for jeans. They are distracting, but maybe wouldn't be as much with dark leggings or tights. I think the blow of the sweater looks really good with your skin and hair, but I think the skirt is too big. (that's a nice problem to have!)

You're right, the skirt is too big, isn't it! It's a few years old, and I've lost weight in that time, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me. I'll stick it on my alterations pile

And Thanks PinkLemonade! I'm not really that young - the gray in my hair just doesn't show in photos yet (it does in real life, and I waffle between thinking that I should dye it, and thinking that I've earned every one of these gray hairs and should flaunt them).

And those tabs will be off the boots right away. Thanks for helping me try out this formula!

I love this silhouette on you. Agree that the skirt might be a bit too big, but I like the sweater as is.

The tabs on the booties would drive me nuts so I would cut them off if possible (especially in the front)!

Beautiful sweater! I think it's a bit too long for the cropped-over-pencil look, and would instead look really great with denim (either skinny or flared) or wide leg trousers. The booties also look good, but I definitely think the tags either need to be cut or tucked away so they're not visible The booties look fine with a skirt this length to me, though I'll agree with others that the skirt is a little too big. If you can alter, then this formula is definitely worth a try with a shorter sweater!
