Cropped flares with two shoes

I ran into Angie shopping for this pair of wedge sandal booties. I normally wouldn't have gone for them, but the color is different enough from my usual fare that I think it will end up being a nice counterpoint and therefore very wearable. It also is a very near match to my new favorite J. Crew Teddie cropped flared trousers. They are not what you would call flattering, but they feel just right to me; and I've been wearing them quite a bit as a result.

I've also worn them with loafers in brown patent, which doesn't "close the gap" at all and is even LESS conventionally flattering, but I'm making no apologies. Pic two, I've got my tummy on display with a fitted, tucked turtleneck, and my legs shortened with cropped flared trousers and loafers. But, I still felt happy and stylish in this with the tweed Pendelton blazer adding a bit of pastel green.

Thoughts? Hate it? Love it? Tips for improvement?

The wedge sandal booties are Killer Spectacular with the Teddie pants. LOVE #1. The way you are wearing them in that outfit is totally flattering. The lighter hair is great with the mustard too.

Both outfits are awesome, and perfectly spring-like. I think I have a slight preference for 2, just because I like the colour combination of the green, mustard and brown shoes. Really nice!

Those pants are pretty great. #1 works really well in all ways, and is perfect with the light streaks in your hair. I love the natty look and color combo of #2, that green and mustard-y combo is delicious.

The dark shoes and moss blazer work to my eye, although I think lighter shoes or a darker jacket could as well. The only thing I'm wondering about is a white top underneath that's closer to the length of the blazer, and maybe has a lower neckline? (although the turtleneck has panache) , I'm not sure, just thinking aloud, but I think it might be a nice counter-balance to the skin at the ankles.

I've got a real soft spot for wider leg trousers. I'm never sure why people see them as unflattering -- to me, it's the fabric that's wider -- not the person -- and I love a good drape.

You look terriifc, Jenava. I love the lighter hair and the fresh porportions in your outfits. I'd love to see a slightly stronger, wider belt in #2, and I think the Teddie's would look terrific with a Breton stripe and the loafers!

Ooh, love the color scheme. And as for the flat shoes, I have found that wearing metallic shoes helps mitigate the stumpifying feature of cropped pants. I think it is because the shoes themselves garner so much attention that the onlooker doesn't really notice the gap.

#2 is kind of 60s which I love. The preppy "Villager" look (does any one else remember that brand? I was 10 but it made a big impression!)

#1 has that cool thing going for it. What a perfect match between shoes and pants. The shirt has a sort of disobedient preppy look to it.

Agreed, agreed, agreed! The pants are *totally* flattering, including the color. I also love the higher vamp shoe--although the blazer pic is equally awesome. I would try those bottoms with half-tuck, faux tuck, and banded-waist tops for more possible looks. For me, keeping the leg line as long as possible is what allows coulottes to work on any body type.

You look fantastic. The first is stunning because those shoes match to perfection and with the white shirt the outfit looks so effortlessly elegant! I do like the second one as well with the loafers and the jacket is unexpected shade but works well and looks very put together.

I like both and am especially fond of 1. That one is just totally fab. The second one is gorgeous in the choice of colors, and still JFE if not quite as flattering, to my eye, as #1. Still, I think the tuck #2 may even out with the gap closure in #1 for flattery! I love the lighter hair color and bangs! What a fresh, pretty look for spring.
