Crease or no Crease?

I decided to end the procrastination and do some closet management so I can up my game wardrobe-wise. I had three large tubs of clothes that I hadn't unpacked after the move and have sorted through them and am now ironing/steaming a small mountain.

I am starting pants now. I don't iron a crease on the legs of narrow pants but still often do on wider legs. Is this still the norm? Do you iron a center crease in your wider legged pants?

Yay for crease and nay for flat legs.

I also did a bit of shopping yesterday and have been thinking about the direction I want to take with my style and will probably post a novella later.

I don't envy you the unpacking and sorting, but like cleaning you'll feel awesome when it's done, right?

I'm a pro-crease "yea" vote. I wouldn't on something like palazzo pants, but love a sharp crease on my not-super-wide-leg bootcut trousers -- and even the straight leg ones. I prefer when the drycleaner puts it in but I will get out the iron and do my best.

But then I'm all about those vertical lines....

I'd say crease the wider leg and no crease on the narrows. I send most of my pants to the cleaners, so they come back with creases...I've never really thought all that much about it. On the no crease ones, you can steam them:).

I don't mind a crease if it comes back from the cleaners, as Dana mentioned. But I don't iron them in because I am afraid that they won't be straight. I have a nanny who used to iron creases in my jeans! I had to talk her down.

Thanks everyone. It seems this one is across the board. Like Vix, I like vertical lines but can see that they may not be "in". As I was going through the pile, I also noticed that a number of pairs
of my narrower pants have a fine seam down the front giving the
impression of a crease.

Angie, could you explain why no crease? I am ruminating on my style preferences and am curious if my reasoning is off. To my eye, the vertical line adds structure to a looser leg. Or perhaps it is that I see it as elongating the legline and am a bit over the top on my need to lengthen.

Nicole, I have to admit to ironing my jeans but I've never put a crease in them.

I, too would like to know why Angie says no to creases...I am a very classic dresser and all of my dress pants are creased. They came that way and that's the way they come back from the cleaners! But I would never crease jeans or chinos.

Genreally my trousers do not have crease, however there are some styles of pants that just seem to cry out for it. Sometimes it somehow adds an element of structure to a garment.

For me it depends on how the pants look creased! Some look great, others look awful. Also, creases will stay in some pants and not others. I just go with it.

No crease. For one thing that would mean actually ironing. =P But I don't like the look either, and I feel like a crease on wide legs tends to make them shoe-eating (i.e. when your pants completely hide your shoes and look like elephant legs - I hate that look).
