Could these be good sleek but edgy ankle boots?

Mo, I am seeing if I can find a pair *I* love. I do think a pair of all-purpose black ankle boots for work is a wardrobe hole, and the quilted booties will probably fall apart this winter, so I'm searching as I feel up to it.

I like these - they remind me of the marcies, which have a very similar heel that I am able to sprint in quite comfortably.

They are edgy but not so sure they are "sleek" what with the buckles and zippers. Or does sleek mean a tight calf fit (vs. polished)?

The rubber heel doesn't scream rubber in person... Shannon and I seem to wear the Marcies to the office a LOT, and I think they have the same heel. I do agree that the covered heel is that much dressier, if that is what you need in your life.

Well, that's good to know! I do think the Marcies are too similar to the quilted booties (lace up with side zip and wedge) but the other pair you posted might work. I've seen you both wear them and they don't come across as casual.

Abie, those are so cute, but I think they are too similar to my Danskos visually with the heel.

I just ordered the other Docs that Rae suggested above - Docs seem edgy no matter how sleek!

Hmmm. The super high wedge and platform don't read "sleek" to me, but that is clearly a matter of interpretation. I would have thought sleek = slim ankle plus low embellishment plus some refinement? Not that I have suggestions to offer.

Having said all that, I am also a fan (and owner) of the Doc Marcies. I do think they're a bit casual/funky, however - not dressy.

I definitely wear my Marcies to the office A LOT as Rae mentioned...with dresses, skirts, etc. I don't personally find the rubber heel too casual at all.

BTW, I agree that the Marcies work well with dresses and skirts. I like to wear mine that way. But to me they still come across as slightly casual. Not in a bad way. In a funky way.

I think they are "sleek enough" for a wedge heel. If the height does not scare you away and you love them go for them.
I LOVE your quilted booties: they are the perfect mix of refined and edgy IMO. Why do you think they are falling apart: you just got them last season, no?

Well, since I ordered these, we will find out! Now I'm interested in the differences of opinion on "casual vs. dressy" and "sleek vs. (not -sleek?)"... Does sleek mean polished, or fitted, or both? Because I think I need sleek but not necessarily polished/dressy, and that's what was holding me up...

Sveta, it's because the heel fell off the left foot in spring! AND turns out the heel is HOLLOW, so can't be nailed back. Turns out it was glued like paper. The cobbler glued them back with some nutty technique involving sealing them on the outside as well as cement glue.

So they are in fact flimsy, or else not made to be worn in anything other than dry weather. Drat, because they are among my favorite boots otherwise.
