Complexion colour descriptors. Warm, Clear, Light?

I'm reading a lot of previous forum threads about choosing one's most flattering colours, and I know this makes such a difference to how I look and feel. It's not something that comes naturally to me, so a while ago I went and "had my colours done".

The descriptors I was given are "Warm, Clear, Light".
Could someone please translate this for me into a Season-type category?

What I'd like to be able to do is have a look for posts from members with similar colouring to me, for some further inspiration. I have my little swatch of colours that I find helpful when shopping.

FWIW, I have fair skin, dark blonde hair with blonde highlights from the hairdresser. I don't really know what colour my eyes are. Isn't that terrible. They are sort of blue-ish, grey-ish.

Here you go Helen...it looks like you may have been identified as a Spring http://www.prettyyourworld.com/springpalettes.html Though I'm a bit confused as according to the link you are either warm, or clear or light...but not all three at once.

Hi, Helen.
I'm a "spring" too. But, I don't literally use any of the colors on the swatch palette that one can find for the season. I have found that one tends to gravitate naturally to one's most flattering colors. For instance, our palette prefers warm and clear colors: I choose greys, blues, reds and ivory with a warm undertone, and I avoid pure white and pure black. My personality would not be able to pull off "light clear gold," tan, warm brown, aqua, etc. even though they might look generally flattering to my complexion. Make sense?

I remembered I do have a few items in my Finds (two are in my wardrobe) that are by the book for "spring" swatches. Look in my Finds / Wardrobe for how I interpret with greys and blues.

It sounds like Spring, particularly Light Spring. My mom is a Light Spring, with fairly similar colouring to you (she dyes her hair a lighter blonde), & she just glows in grass greens and fuschias and turquoises and corals, with creams and tans for her neutrals.

Hi Helen --

On the same wavelength as E above....

In the 12-color systems Neutral leaning Warm + Clear + Light = Light Spring, so you could explore that category and see which members pop up.

If warm and clear are more important than light, you can probably steal lots of colors from True Spring dressers. If the clear and light are more important, Light Summer (Neutral leaning Cool) dressers could inspire.

I believe Astrid ended up preferring Light Summer shades on herself vs Light Spring after DIY analysis, but her photos may be useful to you. And CocoLion wears a mix but she knows I love her in clear, light shades.

I'm sure there are other YLFers to follow but I haven't been around as much and this old brain is blanking for now!

p.s. while getting dressed this morning... I recall that leopard and lighter military green are good neutrals for those of us who can't do cute.They're probably technically in another "season"'s palette, but staying warm and clear is the key.

Diane, I've been poring over those websites tonight. I think I'm leaning towards the 'light' in the springs, though it looks like all are warm, clear light, with one of those dominant. I am drawn to your autumn colours, cream, olive, rust!

Annabelle, thanks for sharing your finds. I had been steering away from blues and greys, so I enjoyed seeing how you use them. I don't think I have a good eye for what really suits me! I do like the lighter military green. But I've never really been brave enough to wear leopard print. Perhaps I should try it.

Eve, I'm loving coral this year. There is so much of it around. Greens are trickier. Definitely cream rather than white, and I don't like black on me. Love it on others, though.

Vix, I think the Light spring is more like me. And the idea of borrowing colours from a neighbour makes sense, too.
