I saved this dress as a Find months ago but never found it in a store to try on, and never ordered it, even though I have looked at it more than once or twice online and lusted after it.
Today I was making a return to the Rack and spotted it -- at less than 50% of its original price. A $200 dress for $60. It's a size M and through the body I could definitely take a S, but they had no S. Besides I think I need the length of the M.
It would need alteration. The alterations lady at the Rack said I'd have to take it to the Nordstrom to do the work, but that's not a problem. We would take in a bit on the sides at the chest/waist (it's very roomy under the arm), and cinch together the shoulder pieces because they sit a little too wide on my shoulders as-is.
What do you think? It's a swing shape that typically is not great on me, but I think the strong shoulder and the vertical colorblocking help make it more flattering. It just reaches my knees, and doesn't quite hide them, but I think the length is good.
It's wonderfully breezy and would be great for summer, but I also have this idea that it could look cool with leggings, booties, and my long jacket come fall.
Opinions? (oh, alterations would basically be free)
