Cold shoulder sweater - too sexy for work?

I recently bought this cold shoulder sweater and when I first tried it on, I thought "hmm, maybe too sexy for work" . Then I thought, why? I wear sleeveless shirts in the summer that show more skin. I tried it on for a friend and she thought t it was definitely too sexy for work. I would style it differently than what I'm showing here (with pants, not leggings) but what do you ladies think? Too sexy for the office or okay?

Coincidentally, I'm trying to decide what to wear to a work dinner next Friday and had the same thought about a new cold shoulder top I just got, that maybe it wouldn't be appropriate for a work function. It's not that my upper arms are so super shmexy or anything. I think it's that the "cut-out" effect registers in my mind as deliberately alluring, like purposely drawing attention to bare skin in a way that just a completely bare arm wouldn't. I dunno.

It is very nice. I think it is too sexy for the office. And you can't compare this to a sleeveless top. One gives off a vibe of classiness. This gives off a vibe of sexiness.

Depends on the office, but if you're asking , it probably is too sexy for your office. You'd be fine in mine though!

It is akin to wearing an off the shoulder top.

You do look great in that top but I think it is too sexy for most offices or office events. You know your office and your initial impression that it wasn't appropriate. So I'd listen to that feeling. I know you are showing less skin than with a sleeveless top, but the cold shoulder look is sexy because it hints at clothing removal.

I agree it's too sexy for work. The top itself isn't super sexy but I don't think any cold shoulder style would be good for work. Nice top though!

i think it is a little too sexy for work. Sleeveless doesn't bother me but something about the open shoulder style in the work setting gives me pause. LOoks great!

I agree with the others, and I like Andrea's explanation of why this design might be more alluring than a sleeveless top. Sometimes it's fun to think about why certain items, even though providing more coverage, have a completely different vibe.

I hope you keep this top, though! You look really amazing in it. And it's a way to wear the off-the-shoulder trend in some colder weather, which is hard to do.

I have a fitted cold shoulder top I have worn to work with a long gilet over the top. I did wonder at the time if it was office appropriate but decided it was ok because the cut outs are fairly small and the gilet/jacket (which I didn't take off) dressed it up a lot. I think with your top the cut outs are larger and the fact that it is a sweater gives it a more casual, cozy come-hither vibe. So I probably wouldn't wear it to work. But it looks fabulous.

I feel it is too sexy for work. I agree that cold shoulder tops hint at clothing removal. Very alluring. I also would not wear sleeveless tops to work but that is me. Many women do.

It is a great sweater, but I would reserve it for outside of work. Sure, sleeveless is acceptable in some work environments, but I feel like this is baring the shoulder with peek-a-boo intentions, even in cold weather. As in, "I know it's cold, but I just have to show some skin anyway!"

Good intuition, and you look great in it.

Thanks everyone! My first instinct was correct, it seems, until I started over analyzing things. Thanks also for articulating why it's sexier than just a sleeveless top.

I agree that this top looks amazing on you! However, I also agree that cut-outs automatically register as more sexy than sleeveless to most people. I wouldn't wear it to the office.

I'm going to have to agree with the others. The sweater fits you perfectly, and you do look gorgeous in it, but I'd save it for non-work events. If your sweater had no sleeves at all I would say it's OK for the office, but the cutouts make it look sexier.

I think it depends on what you do. If you're an engineer or accountant and work in a large corporate office, I agree with the others--probably too sexy. If you're in retail or entertainment, it'd probably be fine.

I like everyone's comments about "if you have to ask, it probably is too sexy". Great yardstick for almost anything!

It's a lovely top. Shoulders are sexy. I don't feel professional in sleeveless tops either. Save it for social occasions.
