coat lust (looking for a similar style)

I really want this but it is out of my budget. (It's also available in ink blue and black, not on sale).

So, has anything seen something similar in a lower price point? (I think around 300 is the highest I can go.) Basically I'm looking for a more refined style toggle coat (as opposed to a traditional, slightly sportier Paddington bear style). It needs to be wool, and warm, and I would like a hood (with NO FUR real or faux, this is not negotiable). Oh, and in one of "my colors" - a dark jewel tone. Not black or cobalt since I have those already. I'd also prefer slit pockets rather than the big patch ones.

I tried this one from Zara which was nice but slightly itchy and the arms were too tight to layer under even in the largest size.

Finding a coat having a Mackage dream coat in mind is very, very hard. Those are very big shoes to fill. In all honesty, I would just splurge in the above, by taking the money out of other budgeted clothing items. I will look and come back to you, though.

ETA: The Zara coats were disappointing. I am returning mine. You might not like the material. it is not substantial, at all.

Great coat! Zara would have been my first tip, too, but Esprit has similar coats that are nice quality.

I know, Zap. To be honest, I have the mackage in my Nordie's cart, but some of the reviews suggest sizing up, in which case I would need the Large that is not available. Am hoping it will still be around (and available in more sizes) and down to 50% (I've decided that's my price threshold) by my birthday. Hey, a girl can dream, right?

If you want a duffle coat, you really should look at the classic Gloverall. I've had one for years and have never ever gotten cold in it (and I'm always cold). The fabric is double faced wool which is awesome. They are expensive, but as I said, they last forever, so the yearly cost is actually pretty low! And of course because they are true classic, they never go out of style.

Did you look at all the duffle coats at Nordies? There are some nice ones there in your price range.

Zap, I had my eye on the green CK one from Nordies too. It looks similar to the Zara one I tried on, but I am a little worried about the review that states the arms are too short. I like my coat arms long.
The J Crew one is a good option too if it comes in other colors. Regardless, I have to try it in store because J Crew clothes often don't fit me at all through the hips.
I agree about the Zara coats. The one I tried was a bit itchy and didn't seem super warm. Also, the upper part of the lining appeared to be some rough material that weirdly felt a bit like burlap?

JAileen, those Gloverall coats are gorgeous! there are a couple on sale at Nordies right now but only in tan and grey. I am definitely going to keep an eye on this brand. The double faced wool sounds awesome and warm! I am kind of sick of finding all these wool blend coats these days that are not warm at all.

Amy, aside from the green CK one Zap linked to (and the Mackage of course), most of the duffle coats on the Nordies site seem to be black or beige. There may be a better selection in store but it's really hard for me to get to a B&M Nordie's at the moment. (I went to one when I was in CA but unsurprisingly they didn't have many warm coats).

not a Mackage, but an English brand, made in the UK. currently at 50% off, and it comes in a tall (if you really want to make sure that the arms are long enough).

Just wanted to weigh in with some hopefully-useful info about Mackage though alas, no "similar style" help!

After several years of looking to replace my wool coat and striking out on size/style etc I recently took the plunge and bought a discounted Mackage. Wish I'd hit the 50% off mark...I think that's a tough find with this brand.

In my case the coat was on the Nordstrom site, then gone (online and in any store), then -- thanks to daily web searches -- popped BACK up online there without repopulating in my cart as available. At which point I ordered and it became unavailable again so obviously it was a one-off.

While all this was going on I was checking at other vendors and in one case (ShopBop IIRC) there was a big sale on one color but not others -- and the on sale price didn't show in my web searches, just when I clicked to SB.

All that to say you may want to turn over a few more stones.

Re the sizing -- agree about running very "designer" in fit. OTOH, if your style coat is like mine the coat is VERY warm...we have been down in the teens and 20s with wind lately, and I have been toasty during my on-foot commute with just a wool sweater underneath. [Thankfully, as my other cold weather coat -- a lovely quality vintage wool -- was *not* doing the job this year despite several more layers being involved and I lack any SportySpice down etc!]

So definitely consider whether you want the typical winter "I can layer lots under it" style or a more fitted one when thinking about sizing.
