I bemoaned the high price tag of this Rachel Roy skirt several weeks back after I had convinced myself I might finally add a pencil skirt to my closet. Lo and behold, it is now at a price I could justify.
But I also am totally smitten with the idea of a paneled leather skirt. The comfort factor of ponte mixed with leather sounds awesome.
The biggest difference is length. The tree print is 24" which sounds awfully long for my height. The leather panel is 18" which is short, but longer than any of the cotton cargo skirts I currently wear. But it is bodycon. So . . . keeping in mind that I am not an office dweller, should I go for classy or sassy?

Mo, I got a knock off of the Rachel Roy skirt from Target.

It is really cute on. I wore it yesterday. It is a nice elegant length on me, just below the knee cap. It will probably go a little shorter on you but still be a pretty long length.

Thanks, Rita. I actually looked at that skirt when the Rachel Roy was too $$$. The animal print was just a little much for me. I know that sounds kinda silly when I'm looking at a tight short leather skirt ha ha, but there it is. We all have our 'issues' I guess lol. If it were another abstract print, I'd be ALL over it. I'm sure it's very cute on.

Mine doesn't look so "animal"-y as the photo makes it seem. It is almost like a light gray field. I can barely tell it's animal print. If you get to a target it's worth checking out. Also, if you order $50 worth of stuff, it is free shipping. I normally wear a 4P and I got the small so it would be a little loose and not too form fitting.

I have the Rachel Roy and will be busting it out soon - it is a beautiful skirt. I do like the Target one that Rita has linked to as well - I think that might be worth checking out Mo.

Shannon I know that you are one of the proud owners. How do you find the length? You are a petite aren't you? I don't like high waisted skirts and always tug them down toward my navel. Is this a high up fit? Thanks for any help!

Because I'm only 5 feet tall, it is more like a midi length on me - I've attached pics for reference. I would say it is akin to a mid rise - not too high but not on the hips, if that makes sense. It probably sits a little higher on me because my large mid section wants to push it up (sorry if TMI).

There is definitely NO GIVE/STRETCH in this skirt due to the fabric and the lining so that's something to keep in mind. But the drape is beautiful. Some that bought it returned it because the front wanted to twise a bit where the panel is. I haven't found that to be the case but I haven't worn it yet either, other than trying it on.

Mo, the target one looks similar to the Rachel Roy but now reading Shannon's review, I see that it is a totally different skirt. It is a soft thick stretchy cotton fabric with no lining. There is no slit in the back. It is probably a bit shorter than Shannon's, it comes up a bit higher on my knees.

Thanks Shannon, that helps a bunch. I won't be buying a slim skirt with no stretch - it will want to go way up to my naturally high waist and I'll be pulling all day at it.
So, that leaves the Target or the leather . . . . hmmmm.

I saw the Target version in store and it looked really good! Might be a better length for you, too, based on Rita's description. I do like the leather skirt, too, but I find them hard to wear for some reason. Not my brand of angst, maybe? Or that they feel dressy to me because of the material?

Part of me would love to wear the leather and the other part wonders if people will think I'm looking tarty lol. Not that I'd pair it with a corset top or anything! More like a chunky sweater, tights and boots, or a drapey blouse.
I might have to order both and do a try on to really know.

Rachylou, you seem to be the only one who thinks so! Being as I have only one pair of pumps in my whole closet (and have not yet worn them!) you are right that the 'office look' is so not me. Maybe I should take my audience into consideration before posing these questions - those darn style filters everyone has lol!

Ooh, you got me Angie! Yes, and well, yes. I suppose I could put this off for 2 or 3 months, but there is that nagging worry that stuff gets sold out. I really am looking for a skirt that is not so summery (like all my cotton cargo ones) for boots and sweaters and long sleeved tops this winter. I want it to be more than just a basic black or grey skirt. I want some pizzazz lol. I will patiently sit on my hands for now.

I've thought about the shortness... and I still go for the leather. You're going to Tahoe, right? All around, I just see more uses for you for the leather skirt. And if you aren't constrained by a dress code, I totally believe in taking advantage and going for more *daring* ensembles.

I vote leather. It's on the short side, and leather is always the sexier option, but what if you wear it with flat boots? That would look all kinds of cool, and would put the skirt more in the "tough" category than the "sexy" one.

I am thinking leather panel, and if not this exact one, then one an inch or two longer. I agree that it can be more edgy than sexy, if done right. For reference, the leather one is just a tad longer than this cargo skirt.
The cool tree print skirt is even 2 inches longer than the full white one. And even wearing it way up at my natural waist, that's just too long for me.

I could really see you in a leather skirt, Malina, more than the Rachel Roy. But I think you should hold out for one that's a little longer than the one you posted.

I like that Parsley, thanks. But again, that would hit mid calf on me. My white skirt in the above pic isn't quite 22". I think 20" is probably the sweet spot, give or take an inch. I will keep my eyes peeled.

Mo, I love the Rachel Roy skirt and tried it on, but the price kept me from taking it home, since I already have a few too many pencil skirts that don't get a lot of use. I LOVE Rita's knock-off idea and now must make a trip to Target. Parsley's link is another good one, too, and, of course, you would wear leather well, but if hem length is the issue, is it possible to take one of these to a good tailor who can work with your sweet spot length?

I may look at the Target version if I end up in person in one soon, but don't think I'll be ordering it specifically. I think my heart belongs to a mixed media leather one in the end.
