Ask Angie: Citron Gallery Trench back on my mind...

ETA: Angie, I'm editing to see if I can get your opinion here - I returned this citron trench way back when, thinking I could dye a smaller, slimmer one. I have not tried *everything* yet, but the dying isn't going well. Should I go back to the Gallery trench in the link below? Back then I thought it was too big, but I was in the minority.

My citron trench DIY efforts have failed SO miserably... I spent all morning with a tub of fabric paint, and now I have to face the music and accept that I've now struck out TWICE. Suddenly, the fit issues I had with the citron gallery trench don't seem so huge...

Now I'm torn between the Ps (mainly patience) and BBQ... Do you think I should RE-grab the Gallery one while it is one sale since this is such a hard color to come by? Or is it better to be patient and wait a few more years for citron to come back in? Or should I dump some more $$ into color remover and try a 3rd dye experiment?

Lol @ Vildy... no question of whether or not I want it! I am simple worried that my desperation is blinding me to my original decision that it was too big.

ok, I looked at it again on you. I realize it's the fashion in the last several years to wear coats and trenches very fitted. What comes in, goes out again. Why don't you try shoving this style stereotype offstage and replace it with the idea of an insouciant Audrey Hepburn inches big all over breezy look? I know Hepburn is not UWP but you get what I mean. Besides, a few inches big gives you all the more room for swashbuckling. What warrior is wearing body con clothing? They need to move.

I am not sure Rae. I think it was too big on you but honestly, I have not seen this much citron at stores in ages. I'm starting to feel this is a now or never type of situation. Did Angie ever gave you an opinion on fit? I think she was off to Chicago during this. Why don't you post an Ask Angie on it?

I think it looks OK to me and the color is lovely on you! What does Angie think? I know I posted pics of my KS trench and several people said it looked like I should size down, but when I asked Angie she said she thought the size was correct. You do need room to move! If you're trying to dye trenches citron, that means you really want it--I would just go for this one because I don't think it looks too big on you.

Rae, it's too big. The color is gorgeous but not if you won't wear it because you're swimming. If you get a size down, then I say go for it. Otherwise I would scour heaven and earth for a citron scarf.

Sorry - but I have been right there with you, and don't let the craving for a color keep your cash conscience clammed!

Natalie, re. the KS trench, I don't think anyone told you to size down. What I said is that both GX and I went for a more form fitting fit.

There is a milion and one ways to wear a trench. It is actually quite fashionable to go for an oversized fit. My trench is fitted but I still have room to move. As long as the buttons don't pull, you can go as fitted as you'd like or as oversized as you heart desires.

Rae belongs to those people who prefer a snug, sharp fit at the shoulder. That is why she might be getting the feedback she is getting.

The split votes here reflect the split vote in my brain! I've edited to see if Angie will chime in - thank you for the suggestion, Zap and Natalie.

Looking at the pics again, I worry a bit...mostly about the shoulder/sleeve. And then there is the additional fact that you already have a number of trenches now. But trenches are almost all year items where you live (whereas for me they have a short season). And the colour is just amazing on you, plus it has a slightly dressy feel that i love. So...Angie?

Thank you, Angie and Suz. Looks like my initial instinct was correct. I did not see the petite option the first time around, and now the petite is out of stock in citron. I guess I will try once more with the dye. :T

Oh well, saved me some $$ and the fuss of a return - thanks again!
