No time to change or style an outfit; I had to drop what I was holding and put this on (don't worry, it was a purse - not a baby or anything)!

The color is SOOOO beautiful! The Gallery sizing chart was way off, though. According to that, this should have been snug on me, and it is roomy in the shoulders (ETA: about 1.5 inches wide on either shoulder) and bust. It is not that noticeable when I tie up the waist, but I wouldn't be able to wear it open, I don't think. I'm thinking the length would work with pants and above the knee skirts, so imagine that instead of the midi.

What do you think? Keep or ebay?

Added some styled pics. Y'know, I was leaning toward reselling it, but it doesn't look as big in the pictures as it feels... perhaps I need to adjust.

The colour is DIVINE Rae! Now...I'm looking at the fit over and over again and I do think it looks a little big in the upper body, but not hugely so. Seriously...I'm on the fence as to whether or not to keep or ebay. Sorry I'm no help!

I love it's non-double-breasted classic-trench-iness! Even the back view is stylish and *not* bulky/bulgy like some other trenches around.

Yes, I can see it's a bit big in the shoulder and sleeves, but how do you feel in it? Not swamped, I trust? What would happen if you popped a fur vest and jacket under there? Still roomy in the bust? I'd probably vote keep, but just some considerations...

Manidipa, I have layers on, and I still have some room. For reference, this is my wool coat, which layers fine even over my thickest blazers. The one strange feeling is being able to wriggle my shoulders without the *trench* moving with me.

Darn, you have an embarrassment of trenches! This colour is so great on you, and I can see it's a good quality coat! I am really on the fence re keep or return. I hope Angie is able to weigh in on this one. Is there a smaller size available anywhere, do you think?

Ahh, good question, Suz. I searched for the color name and found it is now offered at Nordies, but for double the price. Unfortunately, it does not come in XS.

And yes, when it rains trenches, it pours...

1 1/2 inches is about a half inch too much but you can't tell from the photos and otherwise the cut of the coat is charming on you. I would shorten the sleeves, though, so the rest of it looks intentional to prying eyes.

What an incredible color on you! It's worth keeping based on that alone. The slightly wider shoulders (you can't tell they don't fit) and flare at the hem give you *quite* an hourglass with that tiny waist. Rolling and scrunching might solve the sleeve length issue? It really is gorgeous on you.

I'm on the fence too, Rae. It's such a glorious color, it would be hard to give up, but it is big on you. Is it possible to find a smaller size, or perhaps even see whether it's feasible to have it taken in by a tailor.

Vildy and Kate, I've been talked out of tailoring trenches in my other thread this week... I guess since it is lined it would cost an arm and a leg, and this is the smallest size there is.

I have added more pics styled up. I keep going back and forth thinking it's supposed to have volume, then thinking that I'm trying too hard to make it work...

Glorious trench! I love it but it definitely looks roomy in pics 5 and 9. Seems like you might want a closer fitting trench for So Cal since you probably won't be layering any heavy sweaters underneath it. I'm somewhat trench impaired though so I'll defer to others.

Hmmm, at first I thought it was just fine, but looking at the unposed #8 I'm thinking the fit is just too big I suppose you could save it for bulky layers but the bright color is more spring like, which is usually not as heavily layered a season. :/

I think we're moving away from these skinny fit coats and towards an easier fit.
Here's something I do with sleeves with sleeve straps - and I can and do do my
own alterations when I want - I remove the button and sew it back on so that it
cinches the sleeve a little more and thereby lifts and blouses it some. I know you
can sew on a button. Try this with a pin/safety pin first and see what you think. I think it might work just fine with the girly fit of the coat.

Love the color. It looks a bit large, but really best in #4 except for sleeve length. Is it the Electra color because that looks much greener on Nordies and yours is a lovely buttery yellow.

Oh Rae, as much as I love, love, the color on you, I think is too big.in the shoulder and back. Not ridiculously big, but roomy! How sad
Does Gallery make XS? That chart is waaay off.
If you want, send it back and I'll return it. Unless you think you can ebay it easy!

ETA: Oh Booo... I see it does not come in XS. That's what I had to do with the London Fog, decide on whether to return or tailor. Mine did not come any smaller and the S was swimming on me. The color was so nice that I decided to tailor it. I'm picking it up today. I'll let you know if I was successful.
This vanity sizing is driving me up a wall. Really, now I'm a size 6 on pants and XS - S on tops??? I am no petite flower....

Rae, that color is so beautiful on you! The style is great, everything is perfect about it- except that it's just too big! Darn, darn, darn!

I know Angie said it would be expensive to tailor a lined raincoat, but the question is, just HOW expensive? Since you love the coat, would it be worth it to you if it put the total price back up to regular price? It wouldn't hurt to just take it to your tailor and find out what they'd charge to make it smaller. Then if it's prohibitive, well, at least you'll know.

I think you NEED one in this color!

I have a coat that is also too big but clinches at the waist enough with the belt that it's not a deal-breaker. I think this looks wonderful on you, and I don't think it's obviously too big except for worn open.

Wow, this really is your color ! Regarding size, the big lapel really covers up the width of the shoulders. They look fine to me. I think that if you have your sleeves taken up, that will go a long way to making it look like a better fit. I recently did that to my new trench and it made a huge difference. I also think that you can absolutely wear it open. If you want a little more structure, tie the belt in the back so that it pull in the waist a little more.

Wow, that looks amazing on you! I'll be interested in what Angie has to say about the size. I think if the arms were shorter it wouldn't look as big. That's a great color for you, for sure!

Rae - I was reading the latest responses and I think the ladies are up to something. Perhaps it is not too big and the sleeve adjustment would make a difference. I'm so hoping Angie sees this!

Ehm... actually, two of the pics DO have the belt tied in the back, and rather tightly...

The thing that really convinced me not to tailor the other trench was that the tailoring may not come out right and may in fact be messed up... I don't have a trusted tailor, either. And with this one there are so many things, sleeve length, sleeve width, torso, shoulders...

Rae,a great way to find a tailor is to call a Nordstrom in your area or a Bloomingdale's and have them recommend someone ( that is how I found my fab cobbler ). I would do the length of the sleeves first. Then see how that goes.
