Hi Bridgie -- I always send out Christmas Cards. This is the first year that I can remember that I wasn't able to get them out.

I usually pick my cards with care and write long notes to family and friends. I wasn't able to do that this year. It is my plan to follow the Holiday with cards to every one I missed.

Hi, neighbor, thanks for posting. I hope you are able to get your cards out, even if after the first of the New Year. They will be appreciated the same as if they were sent and received earlier. I did not send any this year and am thinking of sending them after Christmas. However, I will probably send a few text message greetings.

Between my DH and I we send out about a dozen cards --mostly to family and friends far away. I get very few anymore, but I enjoy the sending. One year, a while back where unexpected things happened, I sent out New Years greetings....I enjoyed that too.

I haven't even bothered to dig up my Christmas card stash this year. I feel like such a jerk, because I usually at least send them to family.
Maybe this weekend I'll dig them up and they can just arrive late :-/

I always send some cards, at least to family and those friends that I may only hear from once a year. Sometimes they are New Years greetings or a winter scene. I hand write a note and always wonder after the fist 15-20 that say the same thing why I did' t just do a Christmas letter instead.

My bosses at work email... and they send their emails to different email addresses of mine. The delay is soo long. They drive me nuts. Who does that? lol.

And lol, Joy! But it’s much nicer to get something personal. That’s why I like texts... even if it’s actually the same Xmas tree icon I send to everyone.

...Ok, I enjoy newsletters, but let’s admit folks that they ask for mockery. People mock our newsletters!

Bridgie, I love sending and receiving cards at this time of year. DH and I sent 25 cards this year. DH has family in the UK, and I have family in the USA. Our card list was dwindling, but after our move in 2014 we added some friends from the town we left, so the list went up again.

So far we have received 5 cards and 1 e-mail from a card giver who announced that her card and mailing budget was being donated to a homeless shelter, so no cards from her this year.

This year I sorted through my box of correspondence and sourced enough random Christmas cards from previous years to meet my needs with 2 to spare. Next year I will get new. I enjoy picking out the cards and often go for natural motifs that reflect my love of gardening and nature and DH's passion for forestry and wildlife. We also try to source our cards from charities like UNICEF, WWF, etc.

I keep the cards I receive for a year and then recycle them in craft projects the following Christmas. Many years ago we received a card with an Asian winter scene. DS#2 was about 14 and asked if he could keep it. 2 years ago I had it framed for him as a Christmas gift. It hangs on a wall across from the entrance to his room where everyone gets to enjoy it and will go with him when he moves to his own place.

We sent about 240 cards yesterday. (Waited until the last minute and were literally up in the wee hours addressing them so they had a prayer of getting delivered by Monday.) We receive far fewer than we send but that's okay!

Oh, and I insist on hand-addressing the envelopes and writing at least a short note, even if it's just "Cheers!" and signing our names. I have to admit the cards with a printed address and "signature" (completely untouched by human hands) are a teensy bit disappointing to me.

i give xmas cards to our admin support staff with a little something for the holidays. i prefer texts for the immediate and surprisingly personal touch.

i give out so few. bought out the supply of a card shop going out of business. this will last until retirement

Send about 50 a year. Fun to keep in touch with those at a distance. Many folks no longer send them; we are just sentimental enough to do so.

Just a few cards at this point, less than 10, and only receive a few now. Its a running joke with my dad, he bought 2 boxes of cards, and has been sending same for the last several years!

Well, one small something or the other kept popping up with me, and I am happy for being kept busy. I have had a great Christmas. Was with family and others for brunch earlier today. My great grandaughter, aged 4 1/2 was the youngest and I the oldest out of a total of 8.

bj1111, What you do for your staff is good for their morale, and I know you enjoy doing it. You were clever to buy all the cards from the going out of business place.

Sterling, thanks for posting. Hope you had a great Christmas. btw in my post above starting with neighbor, that was meant for you. Should have made that clear at the time, but just now saw it in re-reading the thread.

Christmas eve, I was in Target and saw a package of 6 New Year greeting cards. I bought them and have exactly 6 people in mind to send them too.

These 6 people are the same ones I saw or texted today.

I missed this post when you originally wrote it, but if it’s not too late, I’ll reply now. I send around 65 cards to local and far away friends and family. Some years I write a short letter to print and enclose, but not always. It seemed I did that more when we were acquiring grandchildren each year, and we retired, etc. Not as much new stuff happened this year. We usually get at least 30-35 cards in return.

Both my daughters send out and receive tons of family photo cards, the popular format among their age group.

This year I painted an owl and sent it to a photo printer to have cards made. Occasionally I’ve sent photos of family, and I used to make cards many years ago. But mostly I’ve bought commercial cards.

Carla, your framed card is nice and a good idea.

rachy, Yes, sending family photos seems to be very much a trend now. I enjoy them a lot.

anchie, I agree with you. I do not think a casual acquaintance enjoys a lengthy newsletter in lieu of a simple Christmas greeting or a nice photo. However, they are nice for closer friends who live a distance from each other.

I didn't send any this year - in the past I would sometimes make cards using photography and multi-media art techniques. I do send individual text messages to some close friends and call some family members.
