I had intended on doing the Picasso challenge last week, and then...I got hit with a bad case of strep throat, and then...I got hit with a stomach bug! So I am late to the party, but here is my first installment:

Picasso's The Charnel House is thought to depict the Holocaust, a terrible time in history. This painting is oil and charcoal on canvas. I decided to wear my "charcoal look" mixed shades of gray skirt and cream colored sweater, to echo the charcoal and white tones in the painting. My mother and father both lived during this time period, my father having served in WWII and my mother being in school (they hadn't met yet). I wore my very favorite round toed Mary Jane's as it reminded me of a shoe that might have been popular in the 1940's, and a style I saw in a photo of my mother from that time. The pearl earrings were my mother's. The book I'm holding is a very old schoolbook, "The History of the World."

My lack of a smile wasn't because i wasn't feeling well, it was in keeping with the somber nature of the painting.
