Chambray shirt: How would you have worn it?

I hope everyone is having a stellar start to the week.

I was traveling last week and in very casual settings, but had only packed a few outfits. So when my *planned* outfit didn't quite work, I had to figure something out.

#1 - So this was what I planned, but after seeing it together I think the top and bottom colors are too close in value to work together.

#2 - I switched to black BFs. I think this worked better

#3 - Untucked the shirt (after seeing Lisa P's untucked top last week I thought this might work).

#4 - I switched out the necklace for a black and red scarf.

Which one of these would you have gone with for a casual work day outside?

I think I'd leave off the necklace and say #3 with a semi tuck and rolled/scrunched sleeves to add some structure up top or #1 without the necklace, same scrunching and different shoes. The shirt already has a lot going on in terms of it's design (and not in a bad way at all). The shirt has fading, pockets and dark buttons so there is really quite enough embellishment to my eye without a necklace or scarf. A very simple necklace maybe but this one is very bold. Your hair is so gorgeous in it's rich color and it bookends the cognac of the boots so you don't need the interruption of the necklace.

If you have a navy belt to try with the dark jeans, I think I'd try it with #3 and the semi-tuck. Sometimes I find a navy belt to be good with dark jeans when I want to semi-tuck, but I don't want the belt to "cut me in half" in proportion.

ETA: Meant to add that I love the boots and cognac bag!

Hi Angie My faves are 2 and 4. And in 2, I might have used a darker belt. But I'm not a belt expert, so it's just pure observation. The lighter colour belt isn't repeated anywhere else in the outfit so is kind of out there on its own. I love the scarf in 4 too. I like it better as a neck treatment than the pendant, which I agree competes with your hair a bit. Let's face it: you have fantastic hair and a lot of it !

If it were me I would have gone with #1 or #2 (slight preference for #2) and I would have left off the necklace and added a cognac belt. I love a little matchy, matchy and that may not be your thing but I think it would have pulled the whole thing together IMO.

Me personally, I love the all-light look of #1 so I'd have gone with that (but no necklace for me, and I'd also push the sleeves up). But the higher contrast look with the black pants works nicely too. #2 and #4 look great. #3 feels slightly off to me, not really sure what it is; I think I'd prefer to see a metal necklace with that one to give a little shine (which you got in #1/2 with the belt).

My favorites are actually #1 and #4. Either the tonal look in 1 (your hair bookends the booties perfectly, or the contrast of #4 with the scarf echoing the pants -- those are the two that work the best to my eye.

I like 1 without the necklace, as I think it's too dark with that light outfit, even though it does coordinate with your shoes.

I like #1 the best and agree about no necklace... I love necklaces, but tend to leave off long ones with button up shirts, as they compete too much with the buttons and the plackets..

I vote for #2 and agree with AM about the belt. But, none of your outfits look bad IMO. It all depends on which look you were going for.

Firstly, I think that a cognac belt that compliments the boots would work better. The second photo stands out from the others and works best, followed by the first. Not loving the fully untucked look of three and four, some tuck would elevate the look and make it more modern. You don't need this necklace with this shirt and some rolling on the sleeves could look good. A few tweaks and you have a winning combination. By the way, I love the shoes and bag Angie and the colour works really well with your hair colour.

another person who likes #1. as others have mentioned, i would have eliminated the necklace. i really like the boots with this outfit, but maybe you would have liked it better with lighter footwear, so that the whole outfit had a light feel.

Wow! So much INCREDIBLE advice in this thread. I'm always so impressed with the collective wisdom of this group.

I honestly thought I would never try #1 again....but with your suggestions, I may give it a go. (Ya'll know I was over eager to wear my new necklace! haha)

I actually wore #4. Wasn't thrilled with it, but I think I can make it work much better next time!
