Challenge Chain: What do you think of this possible tweak?

I've noticed that on a lot of the Challenge Chain threads, people post saying they've been inspired to try the challenge themselves, even though it's not strictly "their turn".

I had the thought that it might be great if anyone who was inspired by a challenge also posted their photos on that challenge thread.

What do you think? Would that diminish the experience of the challengee?

YAY = yes, I'd like to see anyone's photos on the same thread

NAY = no, that person should start a new thread so as not to steal the spotlight from the challengee

I vote Yay.
Are the challenge replies always included in the original challenge thread? I only see the challenge posts and not the replies of the people who get the challenge.

Sorry, Joyce, I'm unclear on this -- you're not seeing any of the replies that come after a challenge has been posted? Do you mean that the threads you've seen have only one entry? Or am I misunderstanding?

Joyce, if you go back to the threads, you'll see where the person "took up" the challenge (and subsequent replies). Not sure if that addresses the question, but that's my attempt!

April, I love this idea.

Having said that -- I'm one who said I'd like to try the challenges myself. But I know that given my current circumstances, I can't get it together fast enough to do that. Especially not when the challenge is "turning over" at a good clip --- sometimes we switch from person to person within the same day. That fast pace makes for a fun read, but would also mean I couldn't participate in something like this right now. It's one thing to read and comment and another thing to get the outfits together and photograph. Especially while at work. (Even when you work at home, like me, LOL.)

That's why, ultimately, I'd love a compendium of all the challenges. My life is insanely packed right now so I don't have time to do this, but I was thinking something along the lines of a simple list of them all...that someone could download and then take up at will (or convenience).

Thanks, April and Suz. I do see replies on the threads but I have not seen the replies of the challengees so I don't get to see what they came up with.
Maybe Greg would consider adding a "challenge" category to the options on the forum so that it's easier to follow?
I'm kind of lost with the follow-up for the challenges.

Oh, I see, Joyce -- yes, as Suz said, the challengee's results and photos are sometimes well into the thread, after a number of people have commented on the challenge.

Suz, I hear you on wanting to do a challenge vs. having the time to complete and photograph. Of course, the people who aren't actually being challenged would be under no obligation to follow through, even if they said they wanted to.

I was just wondering if someone did follow through, should they post their results to the same thread without fear that they were hijacking.

I can see how people who are on the forum less often would have trouble following the chain.

I figured anyone who's here at least once a day would be able to follow, since the thread typically stays on page one for a while after the challengee posts her photos, but maybe other "less-frequent flyers" are having the same trouble?

If you let me know, I can think about how to solve this -- and of course, am always happy to have suggestions.

April, thank you for that reminder about the compendium. I am going to print them all off and do them when I get a chance. Or at least do the ones that I think might stretch me a bit personally.

And thank you also for your hard work on this! I can't tell you how much fun it is for me. I think the best part is seeing how specific and individualized each challenge is -- it's such a great way to encourage growth and development.

I am on daily so I find it easy enough to pick up the challenge threads and I go back to them once or twice to find the challengee's response. I guess another way to do it would be for the chellengee to start a new thread as well, i.e. "Bella responds to Karie" or something like that?

I am a yay on this. I've already been challenged, and I don't mind others posting their responses to my challenge on my thread. Also, It makes it easier to see them all on one page.
Maybe the others should just wait for the original challenger to post their outfit before posting their answers. Not as a rule obviously, but as a matter of convention.

Love that idea, Bella. Maybe the courteous practice should be "It's fine to post your own pictures of the challenge on the challenge thread, once the actual challengee has posted photos."

Suz, I was thinking about that too, but wondered if it would just make things more confusing since then there would be two threads to keep track of?

Maybe if multiple people are going to 'take up' the challenge we could have a separate thread from the original, but with everyone else's solutions on it? (Clear as mud?) I too have thought of trying to duplicate some of the challenges but haven't taken the time to do it yet. Or maybe a thread for third-party challengers in general?

Yes, Laura, both Suz and I had the same thought. (Great minds, and all that...) The problem is that then following the chain becomes cumbersome because there are multiple threads relating to the same challenge.

Hence, the idea that anyone should post results, just holding off doing so until the original challengee has posted her photos.

April, I like the idea of all the challenges being open to everyone.

I like the idea of posting the third-party versions to the original threads, because it's easy. However, if someone posts to the original thread as a third party, they might not get as much input, because people won't know to hang around for the third-party poster. For example, if I go to a challenge thread, I see that X has challenged Y, and I will keep checking back until I see Y's response to the challenge. At that point, I will respond with a post and then not revisit the thread. Maybe as soon as a challenge is posted, a third-party challenger should add to the thread saying that she is accepting the challenge also? Then fabbers will know to keep checking the thread until the third party posts.

I'm thinking back to our first challenge, where Amiable was a third-party participant. She had mentioned in the challenge post that she would be taking it on also, so I knew to keep checking the thread until she posted her outfits.

Sorry to be so long-winded...ugh.
