Earlier this summer Carol posted about a skirt made by buttoning two dress shirts together.

I was intrigued and looked in my closet. I found 2 blue and white striped men's shirts by Ralph Lauren, each gifted by a relative and mostly worn on weekends over a tank top and linen pants or shorts. One was linen, one cotton, and they were different degrees of oversized. But the plackets and buttonhole spacing were identical, so it was easy to button them to each other.

All that was needed was the appropriate occasion. Today was it: summer's last hurrah, a day at the shore, spent eating lobster and ice cream and strolling on the beach. Worn with swimsuit, sandals, and a sleeveless shirt as topper.

The only puzzle was what to do with sleeves. The sleeves-hanging-out version was too busy, so I turned them to the inside, where they looked a bit like pockets. I tried tying them to each other underneath the skirt, or half-folding the sleeves inside so they didn't show below the hem. For wading in the surf, I tied them up higher to keep the lot dry.

I had fun! I may try it again, another summer, if another occasion arises.
