Can we talk about magenta?

And/or fuchsia? I feel like I'm seeing these rich, bright jewel tones all over the place for spring. They range from really bright and leaning pink to somewhat muted and tending toward purple. Not sure this is something I'd add to my own closet, though I have fond memories of a Benetton cotton sweater in this sort of shade that I wore in high school. I do love the look of the navy-based florals.

I like it in a print, but have trouble with solid pieces in this color whenever I’ve tried them. Maybe just a bit too bright for me? Although I have a cold-weather gear top in this color which I don’t mind wearing. I proceed with caution.

Magenta/fuchsia gets a "yay" from me. "My" burgundy is basically a very deep magenta. And I have a fuchsia cropped, 3/4 sleeve cardi that was a workhorse last summer -- it adds a nice dimension to summer's pinks imo and looks smashing with navy Breton stripes.

I'm not fond of the classic 80s magenta/teal/purple combination *for me* (actually I have to watch out for that a bit with vintage stuff, sometimes the colors are right but the combo isn't iykwim) but for others -- rock on.

Fuchsia is one of my favourite colours - love the clear bright, more leaning towards pink. So glad it is back.

Really nice colour on classic Winters, and those who wear cool tones well. I like it too - although I prefer Shocking Pink.

I haven’t seen fuschia/magenta in a long time. I used to wear it regularly. I think it falls in the ‘pink category’ for me, a real on-again-off-again relationship. I tend to go very Good Morning America when I wear it, which isn’t very me. Like I live for my pod-coffee...

I'm excited! In my quest to move away from navy and burgundy for spring summer, I hope to add some. I was vehemently anti pink most of my life, and am now realizing I am only anti pastel or bubblegum. This saturated cool tone is really appealing to me. I added some raspberry and deep pink to my closet last fall and hope to continue.

La Pedestrienne, the floral dress you have shown above looks lovely. Not quite my style, but I would admire it on others.

I love magenta, but where I live, I unfortunately haven't seen it "all over the place" this spring.

At present, I own five items in magenta: a turtleneck pullover, a thick quality tee, a pair of snake print ballet flats, a pair of 40-50 denier tights, and a crochet style shawl.

In the '80s, I owned a thin magenta wool midi skirt which I used practically year round. Would love to find a similar skirt again.

I like to wear all shades of pink in spring and summer, but actually think magenta looks particularly good with fall colours.

Magenta/fuschia does not look good with my skin. If would need to be a color for bottoms or socks as it is very cool. Maybe if it is in a print with orange.

I’ve really been missing raspberry in retail as it’s one of my best colors. I guess I’d consider it the less bright version of magenta? Like the sleeveless blouse in pic #3. Would be thrilled to see it in stores again and will pair with navy, cool grays, and whatever else YLF inspires!

Yes to all things pink/fuschia/bright purple. If it’s in the right saturation, I am IN! So glad to see these happy colors back in stores/online!

Magenta looks good on me so I love it, with some caution. I look for " restrained magenta", which may be an oxymoron, or more deep raspberry. And natural or textured fabrics help-- avoid shiny polyester looks.

I think it would look fabulous on you, La Ped. Pink and anything related, including magenta, are not allowed in my wardrobe.

As you know, I've been trying to build up the berry component of my
wardrobe. Cranberry and raspberry approach pink from different sides. The dividing line can be hard to define, but is important to me. Pure, plain, in-your-face pink of any type--bubble gum/Barbie, pale sweetness, sugary pastel--is a turn-off for me, but add in some complication with a little blue/purple, maybe add cool undertones (I'm not sure I understand undertones yet), and then it's interesting to me and I really like its warmth. (You could also add interest by muddying up the pink, but for some reason mauve & co don't appeal to me).

I was interested to hear some other impressions of these types of colors in Suz's recent post. Everyone has their own opinion, but the negativity wasn't anything I expected. I'm not sure what, if anything, I'll do about that in my wardrobe, but I am taking note.

I've been seeing a lot of these pinks and a lot of lilac in stores. I really don't know if I want to buy them now. I like them and jewel brights in winter, sort of the cardinal-against-snow effect, and think the berries & fuchsias are good fall colors for me, but they might be too much for me in summer, which has its own warmth and brightness. I'll see how I feel a few months from now, but expect I'll wait til fall to get back to the fuchsia.

Fashintern please keep your beloved berry tones! I love them on other people, just not on myself. Prefer a bubblegum pink or a hot pink.
Also la Ped I think you would look fabulous in the fuschia... it would offset your hair perfectly.

Thanks Jussie! I don't think they're going anywhere, but I'm a little more aware now of a way people might read me in them. That lets me counteract those assumptions, if I see them coming up.

I enjoy magenta/fuchsia, and would definitely add some, if I found the right shade. I had a magenta Benetton sweater, too, with an emerald green pattern. Fun memories! Definitely try on a few pieces, and see if it will work for you this time around.

I love pink so these colours appeal to me! It is interesting, I have never heard any negative comments about pink (maybe it is a cultural thing) and often get compliments when I wear my pink jacket.

I love the darker shades of these colors, I just avoid going too bright. They add some prettiness to a darker wardrobe.

It's not for me, but I love it on others! My mother is a true Winter and wears magenta, fuchsia, and berry colors excellently. For me, the blue in these shades makes them a bit too cool AND intense for me. I do excellently in virtually all other red and pink, though, from burgundy, maroon, and cranberry colors, to ruby and strawberry reds and lipstick pinks, and warmer pinks like watermelon, rose, and carnation. It's just the purple/blue tone that makes magenta and its ilk difficult.

I definitely think of FashIntern and SarahD8 when I see these colours! It's funny how a colour that's so intuitive and natural for some can be a puzzle for others.

I actually love the vintage 80s sportswear/windbreaker looks, with teal, fuchsia, purple and gold all thrown together. Those jewel-tone colorblocks are one of my secret favourite things, so I'm glad they're having a moment again.

This colour currently has a presence in my gear closet, as it does for Janet, but not so much in my "street clothes". I wonder if this is just because there's a lag between fashion designers and gear designers, so my several year old gear reflects the colours that were trendy several years before that. This does seem to be changing; with the rise of athleisure, gear brands are sometimes driving rather than following the trends...

Suz, #3 is an Amour Vert silk shell, and #4 is Everlane's silk square shirt. (Sorry no Finds; I'm mostly posting from my phone these days.) That colour is *so* yummy, and perfect for something luxe like silk. And I love the way that really saturated shade contrasts with the faded black denim.

The Cat -- Isn't the floral dress amazing?! If I had occasion for a $$$$ designer dress, that one would be on my short list.

This is a great colour and I have it in my garden...but not in my wardrobe! This is just not a good colour for my colouring!

Magenta is sort of a cheat color for me. Not in my palette per se, but warm and bright enough to work. I like it with chocolate brown and burgundy best, since it warms and darkens the whole vibe. I also like it with red or orange. I wouldn't wear with cool toned muted colors like greys or blues though. I like it for gear especially, since its energetic!
