are denim jackets classic? Do you wear them? If so haw do you style them? Photos please!

I have a medium blue-very simple and plain. Sometimes I put a few broaches on it, and get loads of compliments ,especially from younger women. mostly gets worn with chinos or other non denim casual pants.I have a lighter one that has some embroidery and is several years old-this one seldom gets worn-not sure why. my white one goes with blue denim-as I do not like the double denim look. looks western or cowboyish to me.

Denim jackets are iconic, or a Trendy Classic.

I heavily bat for Team Denim Jacket. They are a wardrobe essential for my style. I have FIVE. All different fits, lengths and vibes. I cannot go through Summer without them. They work well with my body type, and are an effective way to dress down my dressy items. I wear cocktail dresses to shop with clients and layer over a denim jacket. I find them extremely comfortable and versatile. And Greg loves me in a denim jacket. One of his faves. I love that part about them too.

Team Denim Jackets is very divided on YLF. There are lots of Fabbers who do not like them at all.

I too put brooches on my denim jackets ( one blue +one white).
My problem with the blue one is that I always hear “don’t wear it with jeans” so even though I would love to- I don’t. As a result it gets less use. It doesn’t look great with a lot of my dresses - fabric wise, so again it sits.
My white denim gets lots of use though.
So I am watching this thread with interest

Angie, I am also on team Nearly Always Freezing, and I cannot fathom how you manage not to be cold in denim jackets in damp Seattle. Woven drafty cotton on top feels really impossible for cold weather, and stifling hot for hot humid weather. I can see them being great in the Southwest.

I have two, one med blue and one white. Both are fairly short and I wear them with skirts and dresses in the summer, occasionally with shorts. I almost never wear them with trousers or jeans.

ETA: I wear the white one probably 5x more often than the blue one.

I love my denim jackets. I have 3. One white cropped, one lightly distressed blue cropped, and one slightly longer mixed-media with leather sleeves. I wear them primarily in spring/ summer/ early fall over dresses (either to dress those down or simply as toppers) or wide leg crops.

I bought a white denim jacket last year specifically to wear as a topper over my (mostly dark-coloured) dresses. I wanted a topper that would add crisp contrast and also lend some structure to knit skirts and dresses. I do pair it with pants or shorts form time to time (usually olive chinos, sage linen pants, or blue linen shorts -- I rarely where it with jeans, even though it's white and wouldn't match, it just feels like too much of one texture for me). I don't use it at all in the winter, when I'd much rather wear a sweater or other wool topper (more insulation!). I run cold and live in a climate where it cools down enough at night that I usually need a topper for at least some part of every day, even in midsummer. Simple blue denim jackets are pretty ubiquitous where I live (I haven't seen anyone else around here wearing a white one); as sure a sign of spring as Birkenstocks and Chacos!

I actually have 14. Different washes, lengths, fits, different sleeve styles, some colored, some embroidered, one studded, a peplum one and a ruffled one.
I wear with cargos, skirts, dresses and with different wash jeans, too.

I haven't worn one for years but my aversion is a mystery even to myself! No problem with denim jackets of any kind on other people and no problem with multiple articles combined either.

The whole anti double denim thing is so annoying. When did that start and why is it still some kind of maxim?

I have a light blue one, lightly distressed. I also would maybe like a white one, but I need it to be slightly off white. Bright white near my face is not flattering. This will depend on whether the light blue non-denim topper I just ordered from AT works out.

3Style, I wear denim jackets in the SUMMER. When it’s 68 to 85 degrees. I can layer a denim jacket under my cold weather coats too. No one runs colder than I do. I can wear cropped jeans in a 100 degrees. It’s dry in Summer in Seattle. But the humidity does not bother me either. I grew up in hot and humid HK and Cape Town. I have amazing heat endurance. But I cannot handle the cold. At all.

I WILL wear denim on denim in the same wash. It looks Dutch and modern to my eye.

No denim jackets for me - the fit is too difficult for me to manage with my broad shoulders and torso. Love them on others and every so often I still buy one... then sadly return it.

I have a few:

- the same mixed media one Angie has with the black sleeves
- a “deconstructed trucker” jacket from Levi’s with collar and waistband remover and raw edges
- a white one
- a grey one with black leather on part of the sleeves
- a very faded, fitted blue one, that I am wearing right now with my new dress and sandals shown here. It’s my travel outfit today.

I find them very useful for dressing down dresses and I almost always take one when I travel because they can get wadded up, washed, beat up, etc.

I have 8 dark, medium and light blue denim, and white, and reach for them most as a topper for a dress or skirt outfit. Mine are different fits and I would like a larger, longer one in white, a black version and a cropped one in denim blue linen. I recently bought a refurbished EF white linen denim jacket style and love it. It will probably be a summer workhorse for air conditioning.
One medium blue denim has a removable faux fur collar.

I haven’t had a denim jacket previously. I bought my first last year and it’s good. Not the best ever fit on the shoulders but pretty good. I wear it at weekends and would also wear in the house as a kind of cardigan. There is a bit of bling on the neck that I can hide with a scarf. (1)

So it got me into denim jackets. Then the BR one which I like very much and is an Angie find. Dark denim, flexible and soft and bracelet length sleeves. I had to stalk down the right size. (2&3)

So having had none, I now have two and I like them a lot.

I have friends who think that it is a younger persons look though!

Angie, thanks for your reply. I own one denim jacket and can feel comfortable in it over a T-shirt at 68-74 if it’s dry and not windy. Otherwise I prefer it as a top layer over sweaters when it’s in the low 40s.

I have two Jcrew denim jacketsin light and medium washes that are a PERFECT fit. Not sure I could ever buy a different brand.

I wear them with everything but don’t like to do them with the same tone of denim bottom. They are my only summer topper.

I think I need a dark blue one now, to round out my collection.

Yes, I will do a woolen turtleneck and a woolen pullover on top of that,and then denim on top of that. I’m thinking of times when I am outside for 5 minutes several times over, in and out of stores (except freezing grocery stores) and back and forth to my car. I don’t stay outside in only denim. I get colder in the end if I get warm enough to sweat and then cool off than if I’m just maintaining chill mode.

If I’m out longer, I don’t tend to find a coat over denim very comfortable, but that’s probably because my coats are either too tight or loose to work well with it. Which one is your favorite coat over denim? I’m generally on the hunt for a warm non-puffer that isn’t super dressy. Most of the things that I’ve tried seem to have zero wind proofing if they aren’t gear.
