Can I ask again about hairstyles? (Eta pics @ bottom)

So tonight is my hair appointment and I've been giving it a fair bit of thought as to what direction I want to head (ha ha....get it?...."head"....) in with my hairstyle.

Bit of info about my hair. It is pretty straight, although has gained some body with age, and very thick and requires a fair bit of thinning when I get it cut. It has the tendency to grow the fastest in the crown area and I can end up with what I call "the mighty hump" if left on its own.

Continuing with my desire for simplicity, I don't like to spend a lot of time on my hair. Right now it's much too long and thick for my liking and I need to both blow dry it and flat iron the front to get it to look decent. Hey c'mon...if I can have 10 more minutes of sleep in the morning, I'm going for it!

I'm also taking into account Angie's comments on my previous thread about haircuts (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....cut-option) and would like to leave the sideswept fringe in the front for length and asymmetry. The asymmetry does work well to help shorten my fairly long and narrow face. I don't mind blow drying and flat ironing the fringe, I just don't want to do my whole head.

So here are three options I'm quite interested in. #1 and #2 are actually quite similar except that the sides and back of #1 aren't shaved and therefore are smoother and the sides/back of #2 are shaved but still has the longer fringe in front (although difficult to see at this angle). I love the front of #3 but am a bit concerned that the way the sides and back are shaped will only enhance my Mighty Hump and end up with me looking like a mushroom head.

I'm strongly leaning towards something like #1 - I love the shape and how light and easy it looks but would love your feedback.

Ok. First, no, you can't ask again. Haha. But seriously, I missed the first conversation entirely. My bad. For me, this is brand new.

Second, and this is really bad of me, I wonder if the difference between the three haircuts is the person whose hair it is. I think you'd look good with this general haircut tho.

I think Rachylou is right. I'd take all three photos, and tell your stylist you are looking for something like this that will work with your hair and head shape.

#1 and #3 look very similar to me, just different views.

Number one seems softer and more wearable to me. I would rock that hairdo in a heartbeat. The edges of number two seem a bit more "1960s London"...Vidal Sassoon-ish, if you will. The hard, angular line along the hairline reads a bit more punk and edgy, which is also great if that works for you. Number three is nice, but seems more polished and less playful.

I really like all of these! But number one would get my vote because - and maybe I am wrong here, ask your stylist - if you get one, and then decide you liked two better, you have some wiggle room. Not sure about three, but I also really love it. I agree with Elizabeth, ask your stylist about the styles.

I appreciate your feedback Rachy, Elizabeth, Niki Lea and LBD. They are all quite similar it's true and of course, my hair is already reasonably short so there's not a ton of differences you can make.

It's now a tie between #1 and #2 for me. I actually really like the punk-ish vibe of #2. I think #3 has a little too much bowl-like shape to it for me.

I love all of these pretty equally - I think 1 catches my eye because that is the color I want my hair to be. Don't think you can go wrong especially because short hair transitions so quickly if you don't like it.

Does your hair tend to grow forward? If so, No. 1 might turn into sort of a front ponytail after a while. Mind wants to grow forward, so having a heavier bang in the front can get weird as it gets longer. I think showing your salon person these three (and other looks) and then asking him/her to adapt these cuts to your hair would be a good thing. I think you've said before that your hair grows quite quickly, so you could grow out of it rapidly. As you know, the downside to very short hair is that it must be pretty precisely cut in the beginning so the grow out doesn't get super wonky.

I think I may be too late but I also vote #1. Good length, and a bit more architecture than the others which will look superb against your drapier style direction. #1 actually reads as more punk to me, FWIW. I'm always in favor of injecting more punk \m/

Just got back and here's a couple if quick pics. Sorry for the poor quality and lack of lipstick. Worn out at the end of a busy day. Really happy with the hair And I'll like it even more tomorrow when I get to do it myself. My stylist always puts a bit too much product in it and it weighs it down a bit IMHO.

Fabulous, Shannon!! It is very similar to how mine looks (sometimes) just after it is freshly cut. I say "sometimes," because she does vary it up according to her mood or mine, so occasionally we leave it a bit longer than your fresh cut, and other times it is a bit shorter.

So how is this different from what you already had? Shorter on sides, etc?

My first asymmetrical bang cut (in my avatar) was a bit longer than what I've settled on (for the most part). Like your #1 but a bit longer. It just had a tendency to grow out so quickly.

I have EXACTLY the same issue with my hair as you do -- if my hair isn't vigorously thinned, I get mushroom head. Well, truth is, I get mushroom head regardless, if I go more than five weeks between cuts. Especially in summer with the humidity. But last time we learned that too eager use of the thinning shears was not doing good things for my hair -- my hairdresser felt the texture was getting messed up, so this time she thinned only with the regular scissors, which of course takes much longer and has a slightly different effect, but which seems to be preventing a bit of "fuzziness" -- though the full proof will be in the grow-out.

I just had my hair cut, too, Shannon! I hadn't had a trim since.........before Christmas. Sheesh! Of course, mine is still long, but, even at this length, it's all about the texture and swing. I require thinning out, too.

Your stylist did a beautiful job of following your face shape and the natural fall of your hair. Yeah!

Aida - that's so sweet of you to say I have gorgeous hair I've really come to embrace its straightness and the grey/silver.

Angie - I actually think these close up shots are rather frightening! Lol!

Joy -"sassy sprite" huh? I think I could get used to that

Suz - the sides and back are quite different with this cut although of course you never really saw that in my pics. Previously, the sides had a 2 inch wide razored strip over the ear and around the back and then above that, a "regular" and longer cut. This gave a very distinct demarcation with the two lengths and shapes. But it meant I had significantly more haired on the top of my head and the upper sides which between cuts resulted in just too much bulk. The sides and back and part of the top is now the same short length and the only longer portion is the front fringe. A ton less bulk and much sleeker. You're right in that short hair like ours require trims and I go every four weeks to keep the shape. The change may not look huge but it FEELS huge IYKWIM.

Oh, my!! What you describe of your earlier cut would NEVER work on me. I'm sort of shuddering at the thought (based on my own hair's texture and growth patterns). It would be a pure nightmare for me to deal with. Mine has been different lengths at various times, but all graduated, as you describe for your new cut. No sharp demarcations of length.
