Can a Winter wear Lemon?

I really like the ensemble Angie posted this morning. My coloring is that of a true winter. I can wear white and light blue next to my face without any trouble. I would like to try lemon yellow. In the past, my friend commented that yellow is not my friend.

Are there any recommendations/suggestions for winters wearing yellow? Perhaps I just got the wrong shade/tone of yellow?

I don't know the definitive answer but I think a cool lemon or a citron lemon yellow could work.

I think I'm a winter too and I can't do lemon unless it's saturated or citron - a pale pastel yellow just kills me.

I think a Winter could wear a tinted version of yellow. It would be an "icy" color that's almost white. Hope this helps.

I'm with you. I don't wear yellow well either, but I do like it in a print with other more flattering colors. I had a cute butter yellow jacket when I was in college that I really liked, but I wore it best when I had a tan. Well, at least as much of a tan as I ever get, which is not very much.

Another winter here, and I hear you about liking the colors in today's ensemble! There is a pure, buttery shade of yellow in the winter palette. If you google "winter palette" you'll can see some examples of the color. I want to try it if I find just the right shade of yellow.

As a winter, I've found a "true" lemon--not a pastel, creamy, or greeny shade, wearable if I team it with optic white. One of my most flattering summer dresses was a lemon yellow with a white trim around the neck and shoulders. The optic white created enough contrast against the lemon yellow to highlight my dark hair and pale skin. A shirt collar, or scarf, in optic white would create a similar effect. I'd stay away from any hint of brown in the outfit.

I'm a winter too and I think you can wear an icy pastel yellow. As a child, my mother dressed me in yellow all the time...but my hair was dark brown, almost black then. Now it's salt and pepper. (the rest of my palette was red, navy, gray, light blue and pink.) You need to try things next to your face. Or, another idea is to think of the yellow "power" ties men used to wear...they looked great with a light blue shirt. So if you can find a yellow accessory, that might work for you.

I am a dark winter and do not wear yellow well at all, in any shade. Why not go and try various yellows on and post pics?

Winter here as well...I think we can wear a deep citron but not this butter yellow...I have a citron shirt that I wear spring and summer that works with my coloring...

The yellow I can wear scares me a bit... Saturated. So I wear it very sparingly :). And citron works. The yellow in today's post would kill me.

Yellow comes in many shades and tones and some should work for you. I think it is a trial and error process: even a subtle difference in the color may have a huge impact and make or break the look.
If I learned something here is to never say " I cannot wear color X" because most likely there is a shade of that color which can work for me. Experiment!

I would think that there is a shade of yellow out there for you. I think any color can look good on anyone if you get the right shade. For instance, I look like death warmed over in icy pink, but I look great in salmon. The icy pink is just too cool (I am a dark autumn). I am guessing along the lines of bettycrocker, that a very cool-toned lemon pastel would look good on you.

I know in "Color Me Beautiful" a Winter was supposed to be able to wear lemon yellow, which was not a pastel but a saturated yellow with a hint of green. Icy yellow--yellow with a lot of white added--may also have been an option.

I can wear a real LEMON yellow. Completely bright. I have one dress in this color. I have not worn it lately as it is seasonal to summer. It is also woven and structured and fitted... so I am questioning it now... but at the time I loved it. I know it was a hard to find color.

I also have a bright yellow jacket and I always get people saying... "Love the Jacket " etc... Not comfortable with this... makes me feel like it is too much the the jacket is being noticed and not myself within it.

I also wonder now if my hair is a direct clash with bright Lemon- which might make it overly noticeable. I know in general that most yellows, browns and oranges are deadly for me unfortunately.

All of your posts were so helpful. I am intrigued by yellow now. I am going to add some as soon as I find the right color (either an icy yellow or a lemon yellow). Thank you for your help.
