Hi Dakota --
As a Rectangle I *look* for items like the jacket and first top. I always say if it's not rouched or draped I'm trying to get it altered so it does, ha!
It's too bad the jacket is straight across in the back -- any chance it has curved seaming back there? Even if not I'd try it for the front; between the deep V neck, the wrap-over style, the pocket on the waist and the diagonal cut at the hips I think it will look great unless it's all too much of a good thing.
Many stylists suggest empire tops for Rectangles, so I'd definitely experiment and see how the cling factor works for you; I have several. [I'm really short-waisted so stick to hip belts, but I do have a smaller -- if undefined -- waist and I'm a-gonna show it. ]
FWIW, here's a ancient pic of the empire waist + rouching (scoop neck variation) on me (pic 1)
I don't wear many wovens, but for the ones I have and like to wear alone or "lightly layered" I always look for rouching or details that fake a waist. (pics 2-3)
You can also go the other direction and look for banded, bigger-volume silky (or knit) tops that obscure your waist...by putting the focus on the hips it makes the waist look smaller. Allegedly, anyway! (pic 4-5)
Have fun figuring out which of the zillion Rectangle tips and tricks feel "right" to you! Hope you'll share the winners with us.
