Bye-bye sweater - YouLookFab Forum

This sweater was one of my quick purchases I made when I started my new job and had nothing to wear. I was shopping like a mad woman and had no plan.

I liked it when I bought it and still do, actually, but even though I've worn it several times with several different things (skinnies, maxi skirt, jeans, different tops underneath) I just don't feel it. I think it's too girly looking. Something about the almost frilly sleeves.

I am not having any problems editing out any of my quick purchases, because I knew within a year most of them would probably have to go. It's done it's duty to get me through these first few months of my job as I slowly add better items to my closet.

So even though I think the sweater is pretty, I don't think it will be going back into my closet this evening.

Good for you-- it is a pretty sweater but if you aren't feeling it, you are probably right-- it seems a little busy for you. What I really love is that color blue on you!

Light ruffles seem to be coming back though. I think the cardi looks very nice on you.

It's definitely a very pretty sweater....but it won't get worn if you don't feel it's 'right'. Better to send it off to a new home. I have a very similar cardi in grey though with crotcheted sleeves and hem....but then, I am girlie If the style worked for you though, you can find a more modern, abstract print in this shade of blue. The color is truly gorgeous on you

Elly, I'm trying to pay more attention to colors that work for me and deep, dark colors are usually good. So thanks for pointing that out. I need to remember it. Also using the word busy made me start to think. Maybe I need less busy clothes. Hmmmmm......

Joyce, I know...it's a shame that they are back because I like them, but I just can't wear them. I don't have a ruffley personality!

Maneera, from here on out, I will think of you when I try on pretty and girlie things, then smartly place them back on the racks and hit the tomboy section!

Something to think about is: why did you grab that cardigan in the first place? There must have been something about it that spoke to you enough to get you to buy it. Maybe with some analysis, you can pinpoint what that was and use it help with the next purchase.

Firecracker, I watch a lot of the hoarder shows and listening to the therapists on those shows really help me de-clutter my life; including clothes! It's also easier to get rid of something I'm not emotionally attached to.

Ankita, I've been wearing it, but I'm pretty sure I can fill up it's space in my closet with something better.

Thanks for all the support to get rid of it. Luckily, there is a resale shop in town that supports a great cause, so there is even less guilt when I donate a perfect piece of clothing.

Good for you to purge after a wear, rather than put back in the closet and forget what it was that made you feel "off" in it. On to something better!

Wise words. Save the space in your closet for something that makes you feel amaaaaazing when you put it on. Getting all Kondo-ish here, but thank your sweater for its service and move on!

I think you're right to let it go. It's a very pretty sweater, but I can see that it seems to fight against the strong, straight lines of your face & figure. Maybe you'll find a bolder, simpler version of the comfy kimono-style cardigan before cold weather sets in!

Although I think the sweater is quite nice, if you don't feel fab, letting it go is the right move. Why keep clothes that aren't fab that get in the way of seeing and wearing the ones that are fab?

It is nice, but I wholeheartedly agree that if you're not feeling it, let it go. From what I've seen of your style, it doesn't seem quite you -- perhaps it's a bit too romantic/fussy for you? I understand. Sometimes I am drawn to things that I find appealing in some way, but the reality is they're better suited to someone else. You don't look particularly comfortable in it, so I think you were wise to give it a critical look and let it go. Onward to something you truly feel great in!
