Breaking the rules: "Blue and Green should Never be Seen?"

In the spirit of rule-breaking I wore my new lime green and navy top. This was purchased just after I put my purple 2010 tunic in the dress-up box. Joy suggested maybe I needed some lime green boots or jacket to "spark joy". I thought not, but I had looked at this top a few times and liked it. So I went to get it and found it on half-price sale
Today is first wear. I also wanted it to help me wear my newish navy pants more.
Black Pepper lime/navy top, 2018, first wear
Sills navy pants, 2018, 7th wear
Martinez Valero navy/tan/gold loafers 2016, 22nd wear
Jacket options: I actually pattern mixed and wore the 2016 floral bomber, 56th wear. But I also tried on the warmer Irish tweed blue and purple jacket that I bought in Ireland in 1989!
Thoughts?

I love that your floral bomber has gotten so much wear! I often find that these wild cards (or wild colors) become workhorses.

Grass and sky, water and seaweed, so, yes, blue and green are naturals together in my world,......... unless it’s wintertime! The earrings are stellar with this top, and I also like it best with the floral bomber.

Jenni, that top is beautiful on you. I love the geometric pattern and how pretty it is against the leaves. Outfit 1 is fab -- look at those shoes!

I happen to love blue and green together. Sky and trees...it makes me wonder where these ridiculous rules originated in the first place. Did people never look around?

I really like the geometric print top.

As for blue and green, I'd never heard that before. I happen to like the two colors together, especially in a deep navy or ink with any color green.

So glad these rules are made for breaking!

Wow, I've never heard of that rule before, and am scratching my head as to what the rationale might be. Is it also unacceptable to wear red and orange? Enforcing the blue/green rule would be a challenge in my wardrobe, as I have a lot of olive and ink/navy/denim, and mix them without hesitation.

Anyway, that top is great and works perfectly with the new pants. I'm also coveting that Irish 80s jacket!

I've never heard that rule. It's cute rhyme, but that's about it! Blue and green are right next to each other on the color wheel, so they create a fabulous color scheme. You look great!

One of my favourite decor colour pairings is blue and green, and a favourite top from a few years ago is a blue and green snakeskin print. Love those colours together! This top looks fantastic on you - and great with the navy pants and loafers. I'd stick to a solid colour jacket or topper, or a two-tone at most....a lighter colour too - although I have to remember you are on the opposite side of the seasonal calendar...

I'd never heard that saying before but that's definitely a rule meant to be broken. I like blue and green together and really like your outfit. The top has a great pattern.

Thanks everyone and especially you Joy whose comments encouraged me to buy it! Maybe the rule is just a New Zealand rule?- Sally mentioned it in her first post about this challenge as one she had heard, that blue and green shouldn't be worn together. Well I will happily break that rule in an ongoing fashion x

I love that top on you Jenni - it looks fab.

I know the "rule" but my Mum had a real fondness for Peacock type colours so we have always broken it. It is a crazy one as the shades are so harmonious together.

I added a floral bomber last month - sort of copying yourself and Carla and I am sure a few others too (maybe Janet). Such a useful piece to have and I have worn mine several times already. I love it.

Nicely done. I think the bomber looks great with your combo. The tweed jacket looks a bit too bright to my eye and doesn't harmonize as well with the colors in the outfit. Regarding the blue/green combo, I remember complaining as a newlywed that the combo of my blue upholstered couch alongside the green carpet in our rental disturbed me. A friend's mother said, "The sky is blue and the grass is green. What disturbs you about that?" It was definitely a perspective I hadn't thought of before.

Blue and green should absolutely be seen! This is a harmonious combination that is common in nature (blue sky and water plus green woods and grass).

This is such a lovely colour combination and what a silly, dated rule!
Love your new top on you, you look fab in it and you have styled it beautifully with the navy trousers, large earrings and statement loafers. And you look wonderful in pic 1 - what a pretty smile!
Of the two jackets, I prefer the bomber with this outfit.

My mother used to say, “never wear blue and green without something in between”. I love blue and green together and in nature they are often meeting up: the sky and the trees, the land and the sea, flowers in the garden. You look beautiful, you rule breaker, you.

That's all good Angie! Jet lagged and shortly to be extra busy! I actually wondered if I remembered the "rule" incorrectly and it should have been as Mainelady said: "Blue and Green need a Colour In-Between". I broke that one anyway if so. Sally mentioned something about the "rule" as well so there must have been some concern about those colours together somewhere along the line. Happy to break it!

To those who are unfamiliar with this "rule": It actually can be found in lots of places on the Internet. Traditionally, it goes like this: "Blue and green should never be seen, without a colour in between." But often the last part is omitted.

I have always heard that this is an old British rule, and have often seen it quoted in connection with advice for menswear in particular. Other fabbers might have more information about the origin of the rule and also about whether British gentlemen (and ladies) still adhere to it.

Huh? I’m wondering if its origin is actually a slur against Scottish tartans which are often blue and green striped interlaced color.
