Bought a new dress - opinion please.

I bought this B&W dress today. I like that it is a little longer than I usually wear but wonder if the length is awkward. I have fairly long legs for my height (5'5") so I am hoping I can carry it off.

I am finding that I can no longer be comfortable in high heels and they languish in my closet an then get donated often with only one or two wears. I picked up these wedges a week or two ago in anticipation of the spring that doesn't seem to want to arrive. The tag is still on them.

Do you think it needs to be shortened?

I think these wedges were a great choice - they look wonderful! (and hopefully will be easier to wear!)

I also like this dress; I don't think it needs to be shortened - do you like the collar? It's not really my style, but it looks nice on you

Thanks Lyn. I like the ruffled collar/neckline because my chest is narrow compared to my hips so the detail adds balance - I think.

I love this length for you! It is gorgeous! I think the wedges are nice, and it would be even better if you had shoes with a lower vamp. It would make your legs look longer.

I like this dress a lot. I think it looks fine at this length--skirts are getting longer. It is summery and fresh and it fits you so well. These longer lengths are going to take some getting used to. I don't wear skirts that much, but I did buy a longer skirt for summer and am also having second thoughts.

How about some red shoes or sandals?

You look beautiful and the dress itself is beautiful! I'd be tempted to wear it with a bright color sandal, but your black wedges are great. Add some bright color somehow, like a handbag, or beads/bangles, etc.

I'm getting adjusted to the longer hemline return, so I don't trust my opinion here, but I'm thinking it would be even better if it was shortened just a bit -- to the place where the knee/calf connection is the skinniest (does that make sense?).

I like this, and I think the volume let's you get away with a longer length. If you go shorter it may start to get too puffy. Nice sandals too. I vote keep this whole outfit.

Absolutely lovely on you! You look amazing in this and I agree the shoes are a good choice. I have to be honest; I think it would look cuter a bit shorter. I know the midi length is in (I have 2 skirts and a dress this length myself) but I feel like the vibe of this dress is so sweet that it needs a more youthful length (just to the knee or slightly above is what I'd go for)

Please don't shorten the dress! That length is so elegant. It also seems very timely/on trend. Once you're really sick of it - that's when you should have it shortened thus extending the novelty of the (lovely!) dress.

The dress looks great on you and I like the length. Maybe wear it a few times at the length it is and if you don't really like it then shorten it. I like the sandals but I am 5" 2 and found if I wear shoes with a lower vamp it makes my legs look longer.

I love the black and white combo, but as others said, you could also use a fun colored shoe for something different. Also, does the belt come off or is it attached? A red or yellow belt would also be a fun option.

This dress is so flattering on you. I agree about keeping it long - I think that the length works better with that silhouette. It would look nice with a bit of brightly colored jewelry (red, turquoise, purple?).

Lovely dress. I sit in the 'do not shorten camp.' I do think a shoe with a lower vamp or thinner straps would send this dress right over the top.

Thanks for all the feedback. I am going to leave the length as is and try it with a few shoe and bag options. I can always have it altered later if I change my mind.

Late to the party but glad you're going to see how it feels to wear at that length.

I think it would look great shorter as well, but you have the proportions to carry off the trendier and/or retro length, so why not go for it?

I'm all about the leg-lengthening shoe for myself, but given what you're "working with" your shoe choice looks fine to me -- especially if you want to wear this around town/more casually vs for more of an event.
