I can only wear my boots a couple months a year. The rest of the time, they rest patiently in the closet. I'd like to find a vertical storage system, so they take up less floor space. Any recommendations? Has anyone tried the Boot Butler? https://www.containerstore.com.....%20storage Other systems that worked?

This may not work for you. I keep my boots in their original boxes and store them on the upper most shelf in the closet. They fit perfectly.

I use shoe and boot boxes from the Container Store. Out of season, they go on the top shelf of my closet.

I've got those boot shapers that also have a hook on the top of them, so I can hang them off the closet rod. It takes up a bit of space but works well for those awkward little back corners where you don't want to have clothes that you need to get to constantly.

The container store also has stackable, drop-front shoe boxes - not sure if they have a long boot version.

Hm, I was thinking of sort of a chain with several pairs hanging one above the next, beside my shoes, which hang in storage bags. I guess if I have sweaters in the hanging storage bags, then I'd have room up top for boots in storage boxes. Hadn't thought of it that way.

OR, maybe I could put my suitcases up there and have my boots in these on the floor, where the luggage is now. This review seriously impresses me & reminds me why I love that store (I mean, beyond the fantasy of the perfectly ordered home). https://www.containerstore.com.....%20storage

I've just discovered that Ikea has NO boot storage, for all the snow in Sweden, lol! I expect they park them at the front door in trays. But we like playing in that store anyway, and I got some things for the kitchen.

If only I'd kept the boxes, Sterling!

Susie, considering how short the period when I can use them is, that rearrangement might be worthwhile. I don't think have corners like that, but The Container Store does indeed have long boxes for boots, Laura. Their men's shoe storage boxes would work fine for my booties, if I lay them on their sides.
I've bought these boxes before, but not for their intended purpose--they were how we organized my son's toys when he was six!

I store my boots the same way my mother did. I roll newspapers and insert them inside the legs of the boots and there they stand on my closet floors.

I put mine back in their box and stack the boxes when they are out of season. I would be loathe to give up any hanging space.

In my last place I'd stuff the boots and line them up on the top shelf of my closet. In our new place, I have custom lighted boot cubbies.

I don't think I'd want to hang them as I'd fear the clips would ruin the leather. But I hang on to tall boots forever, since it's so difficult to find boots that are just the right height for my short legs.

If you want to just line them up on the floor or on a shelf, pool noodles (cut to fit) are a good inexpensive option to fill the legs and help them stand upright.

Susie, pool noodles are the most useful things ever. Did you know you can use them to transport a kayak on a car? Slit them open, put them along the kayak's edge, flip it upside down on the car. All you need now are bungee cords. And water.

Fashiontern, admittedly I clicked through too quickly-- reminded me of the way stores sometimes clip boots to hang them. I have seen that done in Nordie's on the sales rack. And considered it as a solution for my recent closet renovation.

Looking at it again -- I think the container store product would run the risk of having dirty boots rubbing up against clean clothing, and that would squick me out!

Then again I lived for a decade with boots lining the top shelf of my closet, inches away from my clothes, dirt could have transferred.

Boot season where I live is practically a 6 month adventure so I prefer not to have them in boxes.

Susie, the pool noodle idea is absolutely brilliant!! I have tissues stuffed in some of mine, and original cardboard inserts stuck in others, and paper towel cardboard rolls in others... I may have invested in lighted cubbies but haven't gotten around to investing in boot inserts.

I hadn't thought of that. Guess I'd have to hang them between the storage bags of shoes and knits. Thanks for pointing that out.
Or I might just save the $$ and get the boxes, for half the money.

Mine are on my closet shelf at eye level with thin flexible plastic cutting boards rolled up and placed inside them. They could also sit on the closet floor.

I stopped at the Container Store tonight to check out the Boot Butler. It would not work for us. Maybe it would not fall apart in the closet or have any pieces snapped off, but it would never make it through a move. I've given up on certain laundry hampers too, because the pieces were somehow never recollected and reassembled after a move. But if you're in your forever home and have less chaos, they might be fine.

Pool noodles sound better all the time.

Mine stay in their original boxes under my bed and the guest room bed.

You've had great advice so far. As someone living in a corner of the world where winter takes up most of the year, I own more than one pair of boots. I used to do like Angie and align them neatly at the back bottom of the front closet, with rolled up magazines tucked into them for shapers. But this method involves a disciplin I am afraid I don't have. Finally I have resolved to this cheap solution, and so far it has worked through two winters: I store my wiped, dried boots and some booties horizontally in a transparent plastic bin on wheels at the bottom of the front closet like this one : https://www.bunnings.com.au/al.....s_p2583730 under my hung coats. The bin conveniently rolls out like a drawer; its top cover doubles as a shelf for the boots/shoes currently in use; when I want a different pair, I pull, open and look into the bin where boots are aligned with shapers in them. At first I was concerned they might dirty one another but if you are careful to store them clean they tend to remain that way. The only downer: some boots might fold due to being stored horizontally or by the weight of other boots on top of them.

My boots are stored anywhere I have space for them! LOL! It snows here 6-7 months of the year so I have a large collection. They sit on the floor of closets under coats, stuffed with rolled foam, and also on the top shelf of my closet also stuffed with rolled foam. They also sit in specially built cubbies in our mud room. Now that my children have moved out, I have considered having the cubbies redone so they can hold more boots.

In theory, my boots are all lined up neatly along the wall of my closet. That is, sadly, very far from reality.

Thanks, everybody, for all your comments & suggestions. You people with built in cubbies have given me ideas for when we move from here. Idk when that will be, but I'm trying to get everything sorted through here, not focusing on decorating in this apt.
