The week got away from me. Sorry for the delayed replies but thanks for the affirmation on the dresses. I was erring on the side of dressy. I felt like most of my dresses skew casual and shorter since I prefer to wear dresses with boots. The majority of the young women wore what I would call a sun dress in midi or maxi lengths. The women my age and older wore anything from capri length pants/nice blouse; jump suit, skirt/blouse or some kind of shift dress. I don’t think any of the options I had pulled out of my closet would have worked TBH. Not sure why I was so worried about it.
@Star:& Brooklyn: BF are my favorite style but I haven’t found any ones to replace my favorite Gap Sexy BF from way back when. Barrels are a close second for me but finding the right hem length is a bit of work. I like the cropped versions with more open foot wear. The longer lengths seem to work with Chelseas but they’re one or the other. BF seem to be more versatile in that respect. Thanks for the thumbs up on the shirt dress too. That’s one of my favorites!
@slimcat: Thank you! I’m delighted that so many resonate with you. I’m glad they convey a playful spirit for spring!
@prioutte: Thank you! I think jeans are the default here too but on a nice day, it’s not uncommon to see dresses in the wild!
@lyn: Thank you! Glad I’m not alone in keeping some of the classic styles. Part of the issue for me is my age and dressing respectfully—like my mom would have instructed. Not to look too casual, I think for the event.
@ChristelJ: Thank you! I am partial to bright white tops especially for spring/summer. They’re easy to pair and are a way to add a pop without color. They make a good background for jewelry too.
@AndiB: Thank you. I am petite, dress twin! Isn’t that Boden dress just the most forgiving cut? Miraculously, it fits at my multiple weights. I think it’s the empire style. Forgiving of broad shoulders too. It’s one of my better dress purchases! I am fully on board with the barrels. I will be sad when those go out of style.
@Robin,Aquamarine, & Debbie: Thank you. I do love denim and glad they look current! Happy to see my favorite dress is also one of yours!
@JAileen: Oldie but goodie. I can’t remember who here coined that but it has stuck with me! How funny that you just saw barrels in real life although, I have to say I don’t see them a lot around here. I seem to be an outlier.
@Carla & Suz: Thank you! I’ve felt like cinderella in the shoe department. It has taken me a bit of effort to find the right footwear for my wide-ish feet and narrow heels. I went back to Danskos even though they don’t seem very fashionable—just because they usually work.
I tried the shirt dress with a red belt but I felt it drew too much attention to my fluffy waist. I may try again because it could just be me being overly critical. Maybe the belt was too thin? Totally agree that the shirt dress can be a work horse. I just wish mine didn’t have to be ironed.
@kkards and Sharan: thank you! Glad that the barrels resonate! I aspire to your style, Sharan. I wish I had more of an arty bone in my body!
@Angie: Thank you! I do tend towards a boyish style with a sprinkling of girly. You hit the nail on the head with your descriptor! I’ve been growing my hair out a bit for fun.- and playing with some texture when I am in the mood.
@LJP: LOL. Thank you. You crack me up. Your style is way more refined than mine! I could definitely see you in a crisp shirt dress though.
@Sal: Thank you! I think you’re right about the patterns.
@Sarah: Thank you! I love the barrels! You hemmed them to the perfect length for me too! Shopping recommendations welcome if you find the next perfect pair
@Jaime, Bonnie: Thank you!
@Lisa: Thank you! Your casual style is enviable!
