Hi all

It's winter here and boot season has begun. I am nuts about boots and wear them exclusively in winter and as often as I can outside of winter. I have been stalking these floral boots for a while and they just came on sale. What do you think of them? They are leather with a mesh overlay but I have not seen them in person. 7 cm heel which is ok for me (a little lower would be better). I am very attracted to the dark floral print BUT I am usually a neutral person when it comes to shoes. I do not have any patterned or non neutral coloured shoes at all (apart from some missoni/converse sneakers). So it is a wild card for me.

I am sure I have seen women in the forum sporting printed boots (especially animal print) and I am wondering how versatile they find them. It's the versatility issue that concerns me. Also, red. I have a bad history with red shoes. Admittedly they were bright red.

I am just pondering and not looking to be enabled at this point! I just bought the black pair of boots shown in the second find and am not setting out to make another boot purchase. I am happy to be talked down.

And, on the black boots, these are possibly the Best Boots Ever. They have a low block heel (insanely comfortable), high shaft, interesting design and they are fitted around the ankle/calf. No flower pot effect. I have been stalking them since March and I pounced when they went on sale last week. I am feeling very boot satiated. For now.

I find the floral boots pretty in a way I probably wouldn't wear, but I'm positively salivating over the black boots. I'm in the market for black booties this year, and pretty much anything that's got straps, buckles, etc. is good with me . Unfortunately I will need a little lower heel than that with the foot pain I've been having.

I think the floral would make a nice statement piece. If you can determine that you would wear them enough they could be a good purchase, depending on comfort level.

Note to self : please remember to look for these black boots in September . Awesomely perfect . The florals ? I like the idea.....the toe is a bit pouty and rounded for my personal liking , but they would be cool with your a-line skirts .

I'm kind of attracted to the floral boots. If your outfit was otherwise neutral, they could work, IMO.

Didn't Coco recently buy some interesting boots as well? Nor floral but multi-coloured....

They were beautiful and so are these!

I'm a huge fan of patterned footwear and I think these could work splendidly for you. You wear a lot of solids on the bottom and the print here is subdued, not screaming. It would tie a lot of outfits together.

Are you able to bring them home and try in front of a mirror or are returns not possible?

The black ones are amazing, too.

The floral boots are a fun look that feels a bit steampunk to me. How would they fit into your current wardrobe? Would they be versatile enough with the outfits you currently have or would you need to build some looks around the boots? Either way is a valid option, it just depends on the direction you want to go.

The black boots are fantastic. I can see how you'll be wearing them into the ground!

Thanks Suz. Yes, the boots are from style tread, which does free delivery and free returns I think too. I kind of want to ponder more before ordering though. If I love them I will have a hard time returning them! And I am kind of a "never met a boot I did not like" person. I think you are right about Coco. I hope she chimes in.

I guess I wonder whether it would make more sense to look for a top in this kind of pattern. But that's easier said than done because Australian stores are generally a sea of black, white and grey. I have not seen much dark floral here at all.

Thanks Beth. I could definitely see myself wearing them with jeans and a solid coloured top. But I do have lots of other options in that department. I also think that possibly they could be worn with brown opaque tights. Brown is a good colour for me but I don't wear it as much as I used too because it is not that fashionable now.
Oh, and Suz, do you think they would go with our multi coloured Zara pencil skirt? Or would that be too much pattern? I often wear brown tights with that skirt. Eta IRL the skirt works very well with dark red. The colour looks a bit off in the photo.

I'm conflicted about the floral. The print is quite nice but I don't love the toe shape and the overall proportions of the shoe. Something is Off....but I can't quite figure out WHAT. I think they would've been a lot more versatile if they were just booties.....but again, I AM NOT SURE. Listen to the other wiser & 'more experienced with boots' ladies

Thanks Manny. I like the height of the shaft. That's part of the appeal for me. I could wear them with cropped or cuffed jeans. But I hadn't noticed the toe thing, so I will definitely be examining that closely if I end up ordering them. I would also want the shaft to be narrow-ish. And there is no way to tell whether it is from the photo!

I love the floral boots. I don't think the roundness is the dated sort, and they look very all-day wearable to me.

I like them - I think they are quite a wildcard, but one with some longevity as they are not highly "on trend" now. I see that as a good thing!!

Well, I adore both pairs of boots. Re-toe shape on the flower ones. I often think when items like this are on the foot and styled you see them from a whole different perspective...and I bet they will look fab! I think the colours are great for you.

I was a bit unsure about the multicoloured pair I bought in Melbourne recently, but I have been wearing them so much...probably every second day. I find that I wear a lot more black white and grey in Winter and the boots go really well. Your floral boots would probably go with more than mine...black, grey, browns, denim.

First of all, I love the black boots - they are gorgeous, trendy, and you say they are comfortable, what more can one ask for? I own some printed boots too, and I find them fairly versatile. For me the trick is to have a color in the pattern that either matches your hair or a piece of outwear you wear often. Your floral boots are every pretty and if the colors work for your wardrobe I say go for them.

I like both of them, especially the shape of the black ones. I've always thought it would be good to have flower printed boots, but just haven't found a pair where the shape and print come together in a way I like. (I did put the attached pair in finds last week but I think the heel is so high that I wouldn't wear them often enough)

I agree with Tanya about how to deal with patterned footwear. For example, I used to love wearing leopard print footwear (and belt) because it tied into my dark blonde hair and also added a bit of "dark" that I could use to integrate other darker elements in an outfit.

But I also wear patterned footwear that does not pick up a colour in my hair. Sometimes if it tones in with the bottoms, that is good. Or works with my blouse/ jacket. I am sure some of this will change now with the grey...but that's yet to be seen.

With the florals, I can see that they might work with the Zara skirt. (I passed mine on to stepdaughter because I thought she'd get more wear from it). You have long slender legs so can manage that shaft height with a skirt -- for me it is tricky.

I had Hibou burgundy boots last season with a similar shaft height/ style and toe shape and I wore them INCESSANTLY. (Actually, it's funny that Lisa said she didn't care for the toe shape on these since she is the one who introduced me to the Hibous! But it's true this toe on the florals might be a bit "poufier." ) Anyway...I also had similar doubts about the toe shape but the shaft fit and height turned out to make it possible for me to wear cropped pants in much cooler temps, so those boots got a major workout -- in fact, I wore them out! They were a similarly moody colour to your potential boots, though not patterned.

I love the floral boots in theory, for me, wear would come down to comfort as much as anything else. I know, no suffering for fashion for me!

First, I want the black boots.

Second, the floral boots are very cool. That smoky muted floral would act like a neutral to me, much like the burnt orange patent did in my Topshop boots from last year. I wore them a ton, with everything (but then again, I am not a matchy-matchy girl). I would definitely wear them with the outfit you posted. I don't have a strong feeling about the toe shape -- in fact, they remind me very much of a calf-height boot that I left at at thrift shop a couple of seasons ago and still mourn. The shape is a bit retro but not dated, to me. I feel like they could work so well with the 70s vibe of much of your style.

I love that you're a "never met a person you didn't like" kind of woman. That's so nice! And I get that about clothing. It can be hard to be discerning, especially when something is pretty and it fits. But I do think it is worth trying these interesting boots in person with some of your outfits. They are unique enough they might be worth adding to your boot collection as a wildcard if the budget allows.

I love those floral boots! I think they would add a bit of pattern and interest to outfits composed of solids and or neutrals. Personally I like the rounded toe.

The pattern and colors are subtle enough to almost be neutral and they look like an easy way to add some interest and charm to all kinds of outfits, plus they're completely different from the black ones, which are also great.

Jenn, I hear you on the fragility issue. That would be a deal breaker for me. But I have seen other floral boots around (is it a thing?) that I suspect are made the same way and they seem quite robust.
Tanya, Suz, thanks for the advice about colour co-ordinating. I do have a lot of burgundy and aubergine. That's what I will be trying it out with initially if I order them.
Suz, on the flattery issue, I saw a woman here wearing similar taller shaft booties (black though, not floral), bare legs, a pencil skirt and a semi fitted short sleeve funnel neck top. She looked sensational. It's a look I want to try (good for our climate) and I bet you could do it too. She was not tall!
Lisa, I love those floral boots! Now I want them too! But I do think the heel is a little high for me. I find I can cope with a little more height if the heel is blocky.
Viva, yes. I do have trouble with being discerning when it comes to boots. I am practical and will rule things out because of heel height and fit. But after that, there is still a lot to love to go around

I think the floral boots are so muted that they will be easier to wear than a boot in a more distinct solid color. I am the same way you are with colored footwear--I rarely go for it. I have had red shoes that go unworn, even in the berry or wine shades that I really like. To me, these boots are different in that a) they are boots, not shoes, and b) they are subtle enough to blend in with other patterns as well as solids. You don't wear a lot of patterns in your clothing anyway, do you? I can see these with a column of burgundy, a column of your gorgeous green, peeking out from flared jeans, etc. They will be smashing with the skirt you show above.
The black boots are excellent. It's good you are happy with them, so if you order the floral ones and aren't crazy about them, you won't feel deprived if you need to send them back.
