Black with brown in early Autumn outfit

This is one of my first Autumn outfits this Australian autumn and I feel that funny feeling of "how to I dress for this season again?"

Anyway, this is what I wore and your criticisms are most welcome - these are all old garments so I don't mind at all.

A particular questions is whether the brown boots work with the black top ( I started off with black heeled boots but decided my feet weren't up to heels)?

I like black and brown together when the brown is somewhat light, like your boots. I would probably add something like a scarf to tie the various colors together, but that's probably just me being matchy-matchy. The proportions and fit of all the items look great on you.

I think that colour of brown looks good with black also. I find the red is kind of throwing things off to my eye. Your boots are more orangey brown, and the skirt is a blueish red on my screen.

A scarf instead of the pearls would maybe do it?

I do agree with Sara that the fit of everything is good!

Love it! The brown and black work very nicely together, especially in the order you have them; it works very nicely with your blonde hair. I rather like it with the pearls, but of course a scarf is another option. I don't think you have any need to tie the black and brown, they work nicely to me.

Thanks all. I think it was the skirt colour that was confusing me. After all brown boots, blue jeans (like you had Ceit) and a black top is one of my standard combinations.

Maybe tie the black and brown together with a brown necklace or scarf?

Lovely silhouette on you, Anne! I think red is kind of a "power" color, as opposed to the blue of jeans, which we have been conditioned to believe go with everything. Our eyes now read them as a "neutral."

Do you have a denim skirt? I can see that being very versatile in your wardrobe.

Now with super expanding photos I can see your eyeglasses are red (or so they look to me). Anyway, I love black and brown together and think this works very nicely on you.

Thanks everyone. I made this skirt a couple of years ago, and think it may be showing its age.

Beth Ann - a knee length denim skirt was one of the first things I bought with YLF influence nearly 5 years ago and it is a wardrobe staple. Replacing it (it is rather faded now) with a version that doesn't have a front zipper is one of my plans, if I ever find one in Australia.

Hi Anne,
I am enjoying the cooler weather, but I.K.W.Y.M. about forgetting what goes with what after hot weather dressing for months!
I really like the red skirt here.
I am noticing that there are lots of 'statement necklaces' around at the moment, that follow the neckline of the top-kind of mid-length.
I could imagine something like this going very well with your plain L.S. tee, and it is a (relatively) inexpensive way to add interest to an outfit.
I don't mind the brown boots with the black top at all.

I love black and brown together, and red goes well with both. A very nice outfit as is, but a scarf could add more texture and tie together the colors if you prefer. I like it with the lightness of the pearls, too!

I really like this look Anne. I think the brown works great with the black and the colour of the skirt really works with both. It is funny having to start dressing for another season

KP, is it still hot in Brissy? I do run cold - even wore a turtleneck in this outfit to go to Coles in, but some others would still be in short sleeves.
