Black dress challenge- some WIW

Thank you Joy for embracing this challenge. I feel a bit slack as I got too caught up in things and didn't post photos. Here are some of the options I went with. I like to be a bit boring in that I wear the same shoes. I also like the idea of a capsule wardrobe. The only shoes I wore were my tough boots, my doc martins and my brogues (which I had to resole). I would also do the same options with black skinnies and a black top. These are my options with two black dresses....one is a cotton black t-shirt dress (betty basics) and the other is a merino wool dress which I pretty much wore only with my stompy boots.

Sorry some of the scarves weren't ironed and my hair wasn't styled. Actually I never style my hair so the pictures are pretty authentic. Also the mirror is streaky...didn't notice this until I posted the photos.

#2, 3 and 4 are my faves! The crispness of a woven topper worn over a knitted dress is what is swaying me because I like the dressier effect.

I wear a lot of the same shoes too. Personally, I don't think of it as boring, but rather as signature to a style

Thank you Star. I naturally gravitate towards black but am trying to add in colour through scarves and cardigans etc.
Thank you Angie. I was wondering after I saw the photos if the casualness of the knitted dress was in conflict (maybe not the right word) with the heaviness of the jackets. I am wondering if my new dress which is more classic would work better with the jackets and the brogues and if I should leave the tshirt dresses for more casual looks with sneakers and denim.

Agree with Angie about the shoes and the favorites. I especially like the oxfords with these looks!

This looks like one of those articles about all the different personalities a black dress can have. I love the acid punch of that first sweater, and the plum jacket right after it, but really it’s the variety that gets me here. Glad to hear the brogues are good to go!

Stagiaire fash - that is the type of article I used to love and still do...1 dress 100 ways or a 100 days. I am not sure why I have an obsession with this. I also have an obsession with the perfect capsule wardrobe....a great desire to be a minimalist maybe.

Think all these work for various reasons, but my fave is nr 6! Then, I never see my mirrors streaky...until I see my wiw's...at least they are getting clean again after that!:-).

Thank you Suz, lyn67 and suntiger. Interesting how some like the tailored look while others like the draped look with the cardigan. I actually prefer the cardigans myself. no-one commented on whether I could wear my merino dress backwards (pics 10 - 11) . Perhaps the pictures are too hard to see.
