Black Boots

I have been told black boots is the starting point for boots in a classic wardrobe: one with a heel and one flat. Then brown. Thoughts?

I think you meant for this thread to be in the main part of the forum, not Style Exchange. You might repost your question there.
As for an answer, it depends on what you will be wearing with boots. Maybe your best boot color is burgundy or metallic or something else. I wear black and brown about equally but grey or pewter just as much. What color is your hair? It might be a good idea to bookend your hair color first.

I agree with Joy that bookending your hair color is the best place to start. I have dark hair and have three pairs of boots: one OTK black with heel; one flat black pair; and one knee-high dark brown with heel. Of these, I wear the flat black pair the most, and the other two quite a bit more rarely. I would consider which heel height you would wear the most (for most people, that would be the flat one, since it's most comfortable) and then look at your wardrobe and see what color would be the most versatile for you.
