Bifocals: my first pair

I finally broke down and ordered some bifocals. It was getting annoying, all that reading glasses for crossword puzzles and having to take them off to glance up at the weather report on the teevee.

My glasses got here yesterday, and I'm still getting adjusted to wearing them. The middle distance gets blurry if I don't hold my head right LOL

I like how the frame is almost as clear as the lens, so they don't have an overwhelming presence on my face.
What say you good people?

I really like those on you!
FWIW in case your blurred issues don’t resolve.....the lenses had to be redone on my most recent pair. The line of demarcation was too high so when I looked straight ahead my vision was, for lack of a better word, swimmy. My eyes were trying to view at a distance through the reading part of the lease.

Welcome to the club. I have mine since March. I got tired of switching between long and short distance glasses. It takes some time to get used to. Stairs were the worst for me.
If I can be honest here, I would prefer if yours have more presence and stand out instead of blend in.

If it makes you feel better, Dh recently got trifocals. That was intended to make the middle distance less awkward. Took a while to get used to though!

They look very chic, and will go with everything. I love the contrast in the frames

I got progressives about 4 years ago for the same reasons and now wear them all the time. When I renewed my prescription last year, I ended up buying 4 different pairs for different tasks. My lovely SALT frames which YLF helped me choose, a pair of prescription sunglasses ( also progressives, but from Costco), and two different single vision frames, one mid distance for the computer and one distance for tv watching and night driving. I am very happy with all of them.

If the blur doesn’t resolve 8n a day or two, take them back for testing. My first pair 4 years ago needed to be redone.

After getting my first set of progressives (fancy name for TRI focals) I went back to my older pair - just couldn't get used to them! Two years later, i had no choice. I've been in progressives for 5 years now. Finding low contrast frames for us folks with low contrast face/hair is a challenge. You've done well, cindysmith.

BTW, has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are? I think this is your first 'head shot' posted to YLF!

Wow, I love those glasses on you. Your blue eyes just pop. I hear you about fiddling around with readers all the time. I graduated to progressives a few years ago, and now I wear them nearly all the time. They do take a while to get used to. Like Anchie says, stairs are the absolute worst.

How hard was it to get used to the gradient? I’ve heard that walking down stairs can be a challenge with the fake-out in distance estimation. Any headaches?

Contemplating taking the plunge. Hubs was not a fan when he switched this year and it hasn’t gotten better.

Those are a great color (or lack of) for you. I have similar coloring (but not your beautiful blue eyes) and recently got new glasses for birding. They are progressives. My husband went with me when I picked them up, and he looked freaked out, because they were black!!! However, I took some sunglasses that turned out to have the exact frame, and had them swap the lenses, so the sunglasses are in black, and the new birding glasses are in tortoiseshell. I still look kind of nerdy in them.

Thank you to everyone for all the suggestions. This is day 2, & I'm adjusting to them pretty well. Haven't tried stairs yet (oddly, there don't seem to be that many stairs in my life and i never realized it until just now!)

BJ1111, I had a bit of a headache yesterday when I first put them on. I took them off for physical therapy and didn't put them back on again until last night for a few hours. I've had them on all day today, cleaning house, and no headache today.

Anchie, I'll probably wind up with at least one more pair, and I'll probably wind up with a pair in an "appalling color" that really stands out. I get mine from zenni optical, so they're really affordable for me.

Those are fabulous on you and what gorgeous eyes you have! The frames highlight your distinctive eyes and hair.

I agree with advice to take them for checking if the issues don't resolve. Sometimes they make mistakes.

I think the blurry-ness was just a matter of getting accustomed to the bifocal lenses in place of using different single-vision glasses for different purposes. I kind of had to train myself that the top of the lens is for far away and so on. The middle distance is still a wee bit blurry unless I tilt my head a wee bit, but it's definitely gotten much easier or more normal or something.

I think they are fabulous. You have gorgeous eyes. So blue. Love your hair. I like the low contrast look with your face. I wonder how a rich colour would look.

Warning: I've worn progressive lenses for years, but I ALSO have a pair dedicated for computer and reading because the progressives.just.don't.make.the.letters.big.enough. I found my non-progressive sunnies useless because I couldn't read my dashboard! But my eyesight is truly miserable so YMMV.

I have been wearing progressive bifocals for about 10 years now. When I experienced bluriness once with a new pair, I brought them back and upon examination they found that the lenses were wavy and had to be redone. (You think they would check them before they give them to you?!)
