because, well, you can't stop at one puff

the weather since Christmas here has been all over the place….from 60F to really cold, with even chillier winds, and back to yesterdays 50F (and sunshine, which is a winter rarity for us). anyway, it has given me a reason to wear each of my puffer coats.

1. new this year, LLBean long down. probably more coat than i need, but i'd much rather be to warm than too cold. love that it both zips and snaps. had faux fur around the hood, which i immediately removed. i had to size down to the petite XS.
2. short, but warm puffer. this is perfect for days when its above 30F, but still cold, and when i'm mostly wearing outerwear from my house to my car.
3. this is a really light puffer, best for warm days, layers really well with rain gear. love.love.love the baby blue color of this coat.
4. this is my least worn puffer, because i don't like that it only zips. and the length and shape of the coat make it awkward when fully zipped.
5. my beloved north face puffer, which i had to retire this year after 10 wonderful years. loved the fabulous silver color and the length. would have loved to replace this exact coat, but when i went looking this year, i could only find dark colors.

so, as i was uploading #2 from my phone to my computer this morning, i realized that my puffers were light colors, but most of my "everyday" wardrobe is darks. don't know why this is… is it because my wardrobe is mostly darks and I'm rebelling, do i secretly yearn to wear light colors/pastels or are coats are part of an alternative fashion reality?

I love that you have a great selection of coats - after all, we have to wear one every day when the weather is cold - i think the lighter colors can just serve as a nice contrast to our outfits oftentimes ... as well, they stand out from the sea of black and gray in winter ...

Wow, this is quite a puffer collection! Interesting that you have many more puffers than living in Canada. I really like the LLBean long puffer (especially with white jeans) and it does not look like "too much of a coat".
I am on the fence to get shorter puffer for myself. On one hand it can be handy for car rides - but on the other hand if it is that cold I would prefer my bum to be covered

love your puffer collection. Interestingly I do not like long puffers at all. If I need long I go for a wool coat because a puffer feels like to much coat getting in and out of the car. All my Puffers are shorter and honestly in the really cold weather (-10 for me with a windshield that puts you closer to -20/-30) I wear a snow skirt or snow pants with my short puffer. For me this is pretty limited to the month of Jan.

A puffer collection, an acknowledgment of the triumph of winter in Canada! I wouldn't mind adding a white puffer to join my black, but this felt like the first winter where I didn't need one. Winters seem warmer now, and even -15C isn't so bad.

in the sake of honesty, i should add that i've collected this grouping over 12 years, and in addition to these, i own 2 wool winter coats. and i don't live in canada or alaska or someplace really cold. but i really really don't like to be cold.

What Sveta said! I am awestruck at your collection. I only have one! (Although in fairness, I do have another on order and I also have 3 wool coats).

Also, it is too bad the red one is uncomfortable because I really like how it looks on you.

As for the colour, it is interesting. I wonder if you unconsciously wanted the contrast...or if the lighter colours help make the coats feel less "heavy" and conspicuous, considering that you live in a (relatively) warmer climate than many who wear puffers? I enjoy them vicariously on you. Up here, black puffers are truly the order of the day. You rarely see much else, besides the occasional red one. I have ordered a light one but don't know if it will work yet.

Great puffer wardrobe! I don't own a single one, curiously.
Too bad about #4, as it's a nice shape and color on you. But I agree with Angie, if it's not comfortable to wear, you have other fab options!

Coats are something that you can keep for years. Why not have several that you rotate and enjoy? You enjoyed your NF for over a decade, but I'm glad you were flexible with its replacement!

Wait - are you saying that 50F is not puffer weather :-)? Anyway, I do love your collection. I love the color of #4 - perhaps that can be your 50F puffer kept open? Love the light blue one also. I think light puffers are a fantastic idea!
