I haven’t really been taking outfit photos lately. Just too much going on! But today I actually thought to take one before I left the house. This is a super basic outfit — I decided to take a day in DC to make a short visit to the Library of Congress, have lunch, walk around, take photos at the National Botanic Garden, pick up a watch that was being serviced, and treat myself to a couple of tapas at Jaleo.

When dressing for a photo day, I always make sure I wear comfortable pants that I can sit on the ground in, without feeling like I’ll stain or snag them. I keep everything casual and washable because sometimes I literally do get down and dirty taking pics.

Black wide leg pants are from Athleta, white tee from Lilla P, new L’Agence denim jacket, McQueen blue patterned scarf, white Nero Guardini sneakers, and Bao Bao bag. It was in the 60s today and pleasant, so it felt and looked like early spring! Bonus iPhone snapshots of my day.

Stunning, Janice. Your outfit is a perfect mix of style and practicality (I especially dig that it doesn't look at first glance like an outfit chosen for practicality, iykwim). And your photographs are just amazing! I especially like the succulents (I'm biased, as a super fan), the lanterns, and that first pic of the LoC.

Wow what a visual treat! Flowers are blooming in DC? Where I live we are expecting blizzard like conditions!!!
I can appreciate your thoughts in what you will where. I have similar considerations only with toddlers...but no one is really gonna see me but I like to feel good in my outfit so I am taking notes.

Thanks! It’s been a very mild winter here. No snow (insert sad face). So the famous cherry blossom in DC are already budding and may be on track for a record-breaking early bloom. But we are now having some weird see-saw temps this week…

I enjoyed looking at your photos. Washington DC made an impression on me when DH and I visited on our way south. It's such a beautiful city inside and out and isn't that far away from T.O. that I'm surprised more Canadians don't go. I am also astonished about the magnolias blooming! Our winter hasn't been very nice this year (too warm, too much rain, not enough snow IMO).

Gorgeous, Janet -- all of it! I love your explanation of what works for you while working -- this should be helpful to Olive Green. Those are great pants. Your legs (as usual) look miles long! Fun sneakers, too, and the denim jacket is fantastic on you. The wash is especially great with your hair.

What gorgeous pics of the library and conservatory and (gasp!) magnolias??? So early (for us, that is.) We have snowdrops and cherry blossoms but it's too cold for much else.

I have only ever been to DC for work, never for fun, but now I want to dress in your outfit and go to the Library of Congress.

The plant life in CT is also quite seasonally confused right now. Such a mild winter, I'm a bit concerned about the trees that are fully in bud weeks before the season officially ends.

CJH, I just discovered that the greatx3 grandfather of one of my BFFs painted the muse murals in the LOC! Now I need to go back and look again.

Thanks for all the lovely compliments, everyone! It’s good to have a WOF (without fail) way to get dressed for a day that includes such a wide variety of activity and can stand up to six miles of urban walking! I kinda wish those Athleta pants were still offered or that I’d duplicated them. I didn’t wear them a ton when I first got them, but now they are total workhorses.

You look amazing in those Athleta pants. It's funny, when I do duplicate favorite pairs sometimes they still have tags on years later because the originals wear for so long, but I wear the originals harder with the confidence I have a backup.

I cannot believe cherry blossoms are popping out. I saw them in bloom on my way to Georgetown yesterday. Worrisome because of these up and down temps, for sure.
