Here is the fringed asymmetrical skirt I ordered from Nordstrom. I think I like it and hope it isn’t too long. I have several pics for your consideration and constructive criticism. I am wearing a simple tank, so you can see the skirt better. I will not be wearing the skirt with a tank. Below are some footwear and jacket options. I will likely be wearing black opaque tights or sheer black hose, but did the pics with bare legs, so you could better see the hemlines. I have not added any accessories.
Soooo should I keep the skirt? I really want to think I can wear it, so I might not be as objective as I should be. What suggestions do you have for styling it?
I welcome any feedback or comments you care to make. Thank you so much for your time.

This is gorgeous! I really like it with the angled-hem jackets (5/6 and 9) -- you get some very dramatic lines that way. Of course I can never resist a black/red combo either.

Curious why you aren't planning to wear it with a tank . I think it looks best that way, actually. The jackets seem to fight with the skirt here and if you need a topper for it, I'd do something far less structured - like a soft wrap sweater, a pashmina, or even a fitted denim jacket (this coming from someone who can't wear them though - lol).

Gorgeous skirt!
Dressy with the red jacket (3-4), where its texture and cut add drama to the already dramatic black and red combo.
More casual with the other items - it even has a folk vibe (to me, at least) with the tall suede boots!
Verdict : I vote keep! This skirt is great on you, and seems to be very versatile.

I like the jackets in 7 and 9 with the skirt. Keep the skirt - it looks great.

I think it looks great and you seem to have lots of styling options for it. What is your concern with the skirt?

It is such a lovely and interesting skirt and it suits you very well. I do not think it is too long. The styling in no 9 is my favourite. You could also try it with some less structured toppers, as Lisa suggested - it would look great as well I think. And what about your black turtleneck and some of your awesome necklaces or/and scarves?

I’m with lisap: it looks super in 1. I don’t think it’s too long at all.
Some of the jackets look possibly a bit TOO structured and crisp for the flowy skirt.

I like it best with bare legs.

Is it that you want to wear it straight away? For that, I think I like the last one (9) for the more laid back look of the tall boots and moto jacket.

Glad you posted this, as I will be looking for a similar skirt, but I want a light spring color. If I wore it I probably would style it more like 5 and 6. I like all the ways you styled it ,but 5 and 6 least-3, 4 , 7 are my favs. Seems like a very versatile skirt.

I really love this skirt. 7 and 9 are my favorite stylings, with 9 being my absolute best. I also think it's looks good with just the tank, and I like the bare legs or contrasting boots to really call attention to the hemline.

Hi Mainelady --

Another vote for #9 as I think the lines of the jacket work well with the skirt and I like the way the color variation picks up your hair tones.

However, also another vote for #1 even though you say you don't plan to wear it that way -- it looks lovely. If the tank is too bare for you or the all-black too dark, perhaps a lightweight, sleeved top in a small print that has black in it?

Thank you La Pedestrienne. I immediately pulled the red jackets to try with this skirt, because I can rarely resist a black and red combo either.

Lisa P, I guess I just nixed the idea of a tank, because in my world tanks are for summer. I do really like the fitted top with the skirt, though. Your idea for softer tops is a great one! I have some lovely sweaters I will try it with and I never even thought of wearing a jean jacket with the skirt, but now that you mention it, I am going to have to try it out!

Thank you, Aurore and Bonnie. I am going to keep the skirt. I think the skirt looks dramatic ( but probably because I have nothing at all like it) and casual, too. I love the way it moves when I walk. I also think I have more style options to play with, which will give this skirt a lot of wears.

Sara L. Thank you. I was worried that the longest part of the skirt would be too long, or that all the angles would be too much for my petite frame. I also worried that it might be too far outside my comfort zone. The more I have tried it on, the more I have liked it, though.

Katerina, thank you. I will be trying some less structured tops and I absolutely will wear the skirt with a black turtleneck and some of my scarves and jewelry. The column of black will be an invitiaion for some of my glittery pretties.

Smittie, I really surprised myself with how much I like the bare leg look! You are right. I want to wear this skirt right away. To me it seems like a great winter skirt, although the weight is not too heavy for me to wear in the spring, or fall. I am pretty sure that I will be sporting the bare legs a time, or two, as soon as I am not worried about being warm enough. Until then, the tights and tall boots will have to join the skirt party.

Always trying, thank you, I hope you do find a skirt you like and that you will share it. Now that I am thinking I can wear this style, I am open to finding one I can wear in spring and summer.

Thank you, Jenn. Thus far, I think I like #9 the best, too. I will give wearing the skirt with a tank some thought. Right now, the ideas seems seasonally challenged, like I am confused, which I could very well be.

Vix thank you. I do have several short sleeved blouses and tops that might look great tucked in. I do think a pattern would look great with the skirt. The tops would give me the coverage I am more comfortable with and a little extra warmth, too.

I get it - sorry I assume everyone else is ready to wear spring clothes (we're certainly nowhere near that in MB) It looked like a great summer skirt !

Lisa P, my heart and my mind are ready, but the Maine winter is not going to easily concede. Hey, I went in search of a vintage denim jacket to try with the skirt. It might not be fitted enough, but I am liking the look!

I lie the skirt. I like 9 best, then 5 and 7. I feel the red in 3 jacket has a formality that as good for the skirt. The tank look great to me too.
And I prefer the jackets open as the column of color prevents a straight across line to compete with the skirt hemline.

The skirt is fabulous. If the fabric weight is not too heavy, definitely plan to wear with sandals and summer tops!

For this season (and transitional) I think a sleeved top or a topper are good options. I like several of these toppers in theory but find that the proportions are a bit off -- the jackets being a bit long. For example, I really like it with the plaid jacket in 7/8 in theory, but less for the proportion. However, the jacket in #9 appears to work a bit better, despite being as long (or longer) -- partially because it's lower contrast, I think, and maybe also because the visual weight of the boots creates a more cohesive impression. I think it will work great with a cropped denim jacket. Any cropped topper, really!

I really like this skirt for you! But... I don't quite care for it with the structured toppers in #3-6. I think Lisa P summed it up best, when she said the jackets seem to fight with the skirt. Or... it somehow seems like too many different ideas happening in one outfit.

I'm on the fence about #7-8, because the jacket looks a bit rigid, but the check pattern keeps it casual. I think it's one of those outfits that I would have to see 'in 3-D' motion, to decide.

I really like the last photo, because the jacket looks relaxed and chill against the skirt, especially with the boots.

I love the tank top, because it looks like a two-piece dress in photos 1-2. Maybe explore that idea with short-sleeve and long sleeve tops that are draped and fitted?

At the end of the day, style is all about wearing what makes your heart sing. If you love this skirt, and you love these ensembles you put together, keep the skirt, and wear 'em all!

Karen, thank you. I think you are right. If I wear the jackets, open will be the best. I couldn’t figure out why, until you pointed out the straight line of the jackets and the hem. Thank you for helping me with that.

Suz and La Belle Demimondaine, looking at the pics, I have to agree with you. In theory, I was totally planning to pair this skirt with some of my jackets, but they don’t look like they work smoothly together, for one reason or another. I do think too structured, and too long are key observations. I do like the look and feel of #9, so will give that a test drive. I am going to try softer, shorter and more fitted tops and sweaters with the skirt. If I wear loose and flowy on the bottom I almost always wear something more fitted on the top. I am not sure why I thought differently this go around.

Jussie, I will be experimenting with tops this week, while on vacation and plan to wear the skirt back to work next week. I am excited !

I really like the skirt and think it's definitely a keeper if you can find the right top for it.

Like others have pointed out, I don't think the jackets are quite right. I like the idea of a turtleneck or some sort of sweater with it. As someone else suggested, I also think a cropped denim jacket would look cute. I'm with you in OP, I would probably wear some hose or tights with it.

Love them all, though I prefer the way you wear the skirt with the heeled booties. I also like both with the tank and the blazers!

Thanks, Suzanimal. I am keeping the skirt and confident I will find some tops in my closet that will work with it. I have a couple of short sleeved, cropped sweaters in mind to try. I’ll have another try on session later in the week to see what works. I think I will start with the tights, move on to sheer black hose and eventually the bare legs.

Thank you Ms Luna. I really like the heeled booties, too. I like having some leg showing. I have a couple of other pair of booties to try with the skirt and tops, too.

Mainelady, the denim jacket you pulled out is sooo fabulous! I am normally not into denim jackets so much actually, but this one is special. It looks great with the skirt in the picture, have you tried it on?

I love the skirt! And I love anything asymmetric Purely my personal opinion but I like this look in monochrome. I prefer it not to be too broken up. The skirt is a bit edgy and I would steer clear of anything too classic with it. The red and black jacket looks great with it and shorter more cropped jackets in general I think create a really nice silhouette. To my eye the solid red jacket wouldn't be the best combo. Even mixing it with an asymmetric top (like an EF one) of a moto style jacket with an asymmetric zip line could work really well. The combo in 9 looks great.

I like 9 the best. Then 5/6 and 1. I actually like a structured jacket with the skirt but I think the jacket in 3/4 is just a little too long and scene stealing for the skirt.

The skirt looks absolutely fabulous on you. I am glad that you are keeping it!

Thank you, Katerina. Just putting the jacket on again after so many years, brought an immediate happiness factor. I haven’t tried the jacket with the skirt. I will, just to satisfy any lingering curiosity, but I am sure the jacket is too long and too big to work with the skirt.

Deborah, I think you may be right, that items too classic may not make the most of the outfit. I don’t have many asymmetric tops, but I am interested to see how they look on.

Thank you Brooklyn. I appreciate your comments. I am thinking the skirt will look best with less structured jackets and tops, but maybe it will depend upon where I am wearing the skirt. I really thought I was going to like the jacket in 3,4 but it was my least favorite look.

Love! You can pull off the drama. I like 1 and 5-9 very much. This skirt can become a LBD easily with a black top with or without sleeves. I wonder how an assymetrical top would look.

Mainelady - that’s what it is, the legs showing! The heels elongate your legs a bit more and the proportions are more balanced with the heel. Not sure if leg lengthening is a style priority for you, but nude heels/booties and maybe low vamp shoes/sandals would work so well!

Angie! Thank you for the Killer vote. This skirt is so far from my norm. With the help from you and everyone here at YLF, I am so much more willing to try new things. Mistakes are easily fixed with a return.

Joy, I have never thought I could pull off a dramatic outfit. Your comment makes me very happy. I think my boosted confidence is key to this change for me. It is exciting to think this little number could become an LBD! I need to rethink going with a sleeveless top. I do want to see how an asymmetrical top looks. If I can get the lines right, it might look quite good!
