Ask Angie: the fit of Gap tweed moto

( I could not resist to try this new to me feature above )

I need more spring / summer toppers for freezing AC in my office so I took Angie's advice to shop for them now to heart. Gap tweed moto is the first contender.
I went to the mall on Sunday and tried 2 different sizes. After agonizing over them I decided to go with the smaller size and ordered it in regular and tall length. They arrived today...
Love the fabric, love that it is cotton AND lined in cotton - super for summer!
So please help me out:
- tall or regular?
- this size or should I size up? This size is comfortable everywhere but I think it may be too fitted closed for a current fit (still not snug at all).

What would be your verdict? Should I order size up and if so - regular or tall?
Or keep one of these? Or none at all?!

Not Angie and no fit expert, but from the photos these look like a good fit. I like the tall best. It seems more fluid and I like the proportions best overall. This looks like a great summer jacket!

I think the size is good. You do not need to size up. Also, I prefer the tall to the regular.

This jacket looks great on you. I hope you keep it.

Fabulous look, Sveta. (Wave to Inge). Although I would have liked to compare it to the larger size, just to spilt hairs. You know I am pretty pedantic about fit. And at the moment modern fits are a little harder to gauge.

The reviews coming through on this jacket on YLF say it runs large - Kelly you were one of those people who said so along with DonnaF and Laura. I guess I really do wear my things larger than tailored because I didn't think so. The fit is just a little more fluid than my black motos. (I have this in the navy). I think it's best not to go overly structured on this jacket. The lines are straight and so the fit should be straight too. Does that make sense?

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who agonizes over two sizes. I think this size looks fine, and if it's not snug it doesn't look too fitted for a current fit. If returns are easy, you could order the next size up and we could compare, but that would mean more agonizing over sizes

Speaking of agonizing over sizes, i have four of these in my basket at the moment... two sizes, both in regular and tall. pretty sure I'll want the tall though, esp after seeing these. Too short really makes me look square.

The tall seems to look best on you. The regular seems to expose the shirt underneath too much. The color looks so pretty on you!

Oh drat, why did I look at this? Now I want one. This looks like a super versatile jacket and I like the tall fit better, I prefer the longer length it has.

It's a fantastic jacket, isn't it, Sveta. I too vote Tall size for you, and further I echo everything Angie wrote about the fit of this jacket in general, and the more fluid way she is wearing it (I am too, as you already know;-)

It looks great with your white jeans. I think this is going to be a very versatile piece in our wardrobes...

Well, I just happened to notice that Gap has 35% off today, which is about as good as it gets, so all four sizes are now on their way to me.

So Tall size it is. I am also going to order one size up - maybe in both Tall and Regular - to compare. It went up the price again since I ordered but I am sure they will honor the same price for a different size. Stay tuned for more pictures!

Angie, you are right, the fabric is great - very crisp for a cotton and the weave is tight so it is going to hold the shape well. Now if only I can decide on the size...:-)
Angie, did I understand correctly that you also got this Gap jacket in navy? Now you got me thinking that perhaps I should try solid navy as well... hmm, it does not make it any easier!!!
As for the jacket running large I am not sure. I often wear size M or 10 in Gap jackets. Last year faded denim moto ( similar in style) was definitely running small as M was uncomfortably snug for me. My cobalt wool moto and this tweed moto run larger than the denim moto for sure as M is not snug at all but not as large because I am still questioning if I should size up to L. They both fit but M is almost tailored when closed and L is more along "straight lines" when closed. If it is supposed to fit straight then I would say it is true to size. If it is supposed to be tailored when closed than I would say it runs large.

YES, Sveta. I have this jacket in navy (it's a lighter dark blue than ink). It is more versatile than the speckled navy for my wardrobe.

Looks beautiful Sveta - in the tall I think. In fact, I decided to order this speckled one to try too. I may get the navy as well since my BR navy moto is going to be worn out before long if I keep wearing it so often. If in doubt, I think trying the L is a good idea just to be sure.

Okay, I'm on my laptop now and can see the pictures better. I prefer the proportions of the tall jacket. Looks great on you, Sveta! The fit looks good to me. In fact, yours fits like mine. But there's nothing wrong with trying the size up just to put your mind at ease.
