Ask Angie: Blue or Red handbag?

Hi Angie,

I'm considering adding another handbag to my collection. I don't have a lot of space to store handbags, so I'm picky and prefer a less is more approach. But I saw a purse today (sorry no link) and I am tempted.

The bag is a satchel in cracked patent leather and comes in either red, or blue. Both are beautiful. Help me decide which color!

The red is similar - but not quite- the same red as your bag here:

My gut instinct is leaning towards the blue. The main reason is that I have had tomato-red bags and I've felt like it was too bright or something. I am more comfortable with a blue-red. Even if they don't pop so much. Also I'm thinking that I have a lot of patterns and bright tops and such, so the blue may get more use, as it's understated but still a pop of color.

Which bag do you get the most use out of?

Or if you recommend I opt for a different color, let me know. (I've been also looking at orange and green bags... but this bag is very pretty - in either the red or the blue).

I personally love red bags, but I can totally see you with the blue, very you Just don't ask me why I think that!

Personally, I use my red bags A LOT more. (I have three). But I am a VERY tomato red gal and you are not.

I say go for blue, Shiny. It’s really nice in Winter with cream coats and black clothing. Adds a nice amount of texture to an ensemble. I love that particular blue with black. Delicious!

i love both bags! i'd almost suggest getting a red one (unless you have one already) to go with your cobalt blue winter coat.

perhaps get the blue one now and maybe a less expensive (but still fab) red bag in the future if you're still considering it. if you can pull off your banana bag, i think you can definitely pull of a red one!

I would totally go for the red. Simply because it seems like the red one is pushing you outside of your comfort zone, and I think that's a good thing. Plus, I like red with your blond hair.

I get a TON of use out of my red handbag, but I understand where you're coming from. I can definitely see you with a blue blag rather than a red one. I think it will work well in your wardrobe.

I have a red and a blue bag! I love both!
The blue goes with everything, the red is great to give a boost to a neutral outfit!
With the red you certainly stand out in a crowd .. I thing Angie is right..

I vote for both! If you're going for only one, I would say the blue because it would go great with your wardrobe and it's a little more unexpected than the red.

I think both colors are beautiful and you should have both eventually, but, the blue bag that Angie has in the picture seems like a color that I don't see often. For that reason I think if you have found a bag that you like in that color you should get it now. Later it is easier to find a red bag. They seem more common than that particular gorgeous midnight blue.

I hope it's as nice as it looks in the pic. I am imagining this will look nice with my cobalt coat in the winter, as a change from cream or black. And I have so much black. I was also thinking this blue would look nice with all my gray stuff, as a change from the yellow+gray?

Plus I already have a blue-red clutch, and I also have a red patent tote that has camel leather handles and trim. Come to think of it, I haven't dragged that one out in a long while... I use to like toting it when I would wear camel colored slacks, but those have long been gone since they got ratty and I've never replaced. I bet the tote would work with jeans and nude heels or the pewter wedges... hmm....

The blue one you ordered is gorgeous! I love the color!!!! It is very pretty in the blue, both are pretty but I like this one in the blue.
