Ask Angie: Are Cognac Boots Fading Away?

I never found the perfect cognac boots last year, and this year I am on the hunt again. I've found these fab boots at Nordstrom, but before I pull the trigger I feel like I need a little reassurance that cognac boots aren't getting to be "so 2009." It seems like maybe chocolate brown or tan are replacing cognac as the go-to boot color. I just swooned over the chocolate Uggs Angie posted a week or so ago!

What say you all? Should I spring for the Briannas cognac, go for the Savannas in chocolate instead, or just be content with my light tan and taupe and red and black and call it a day?

I cannot style my chocolate brown boots to save my life. They do not match with ANYTHING, and don't look good with too much brown. They are very nice boots but I should really just move them along and admit they were a $200 mistake. My cognac boots on the other hand go practically with anything. You already have "nude-ish" boots. Why not add cognac?!

not angie...but the cognac seems more a classic than the dark brown because of all the details in the dk brown boot.

but that may be what drew an ALGO gal like you.

I've been keeping an eye out for cognac boots I love, but I'm finding way more black and dark brown these days. I have a hard time believing they'd go out of style -- they're neutral, right? I like the warm tone of the color. Sometimes my chocolate brown boots just aren't quite right.

the second cognac boot is a contender as well, but for versatility i would go with the first one. it seems to bee easier to dress up and down because the heel has a neutral vibe, while the heel of the second seems very casual, amlmost western inspired.

full disclosure...i bat for team minimal and team versatile, especially if yu will get only one cognac boot.

I think cognac boots will always be stylish, although I do think that they are (sadly) getting harder to find. To be honest, I don't like chocolate brown at all but I LOVE cognac and it goes with everything so I was thrilled when every boot came in cognac last year.

I love my cognac boots. I don't get to wear them as often as I'd like because they are a bit casual, but I think they're more versatile than brown for my color palette.

Obviously not Angie, but I do find that my cognac boots do seem to "brighten" up an outfit. My brown boots definitely tend to blend in more. That aside, the two boots have very different vibes. The Ugg looks very casual and the cognac looks more refined. I LOVE the Uggs but wonder how versatile they would really be. The first pair you posted look a bit like the Rory Scrunch, don't they?

ETA: I think you should order them all and post a Keep or Return : )

I love the cognac color and love it when worn with so many different colors. To me it's so pretty and rich which never goes out of style.
I like that 3rd pair of boots you pictured for one thing they are so different than anything I've seen you wear and I think they would add a nice bit of edge.

I love my cognac boots. They're a neutral, but they also brighten up an outfit and I love bright.

Dark brown is less versatile imho.

I already have brown so I am also on hunt for perfect cognac. I want them to be very simple and work with dresses and pants (not alot of hardware or bunchiness). I want less of a heel than your first pair and love everything except the ties on the 3rd pair. Of course now that I know that they are nearly impossible to find the right combination (and price). I also think cognac would be my bookend color as my hair is sort of cognac.

I think cognac is a classic color that just happened to trend hard recently. Like others have said, my cognac items seem to bo with everything (belts, bag), and I'll eventually add cognac boots after my wardrobe holes are filled.

Cognac seems like a no-brainer always in style item to me, too.

For those who can't style brown boots, I like them with light to medium
gray and also with blues and with off white like a natural linen color,
sometimes with a strong yellow added in. And how about brown and
black and some shade of your white. And sometimes burgundies.

My own brown boots are a more raisiny color but not mahogany.

Sometimes the trouble with brown boots are that they are too rugged.
It's like what they say about dressier handbags, not easy to find in a
brown.

I think cognac is a colour that will always be in style because it's a classic neutral. I like the first boot in your first posting best because it is the simplest style, and won't date in a hurry.

I love #1 over the second one and while I don't have cognac boots, you've got me thinking, now that everyone has shared how versatile these are. I have two pairs of cognac boots; they get the most wear out of any of the boots in my closet.

Okay, it's done! I ordered both pair (with the laces and without in cognac) and will decide which to keep when they get here! Watch for a Keep or Return coming to a forum near you...

MaryK, you are the bomb! I've been wanting cognac boots too (especially since I have a caramel leather jacket on the way)...love the two you posted. You are my style idol and I am shamelessly copying you (hope you don't mind!) and am ordering those to try out myself! Along with a pair of leopard booties and leopard clogs to compare. I already have some leopard pumps but wanted something more comfortable for MOTG--you can never have too many leopard shoes, right?

Hope you like the boots and can't wait to see what you pick! Here's a couple other styles of cognac boots that looked interesting, in case those two don't work out for you--Frye Mimi (scrunchy top) and Halogen Kate.
