Ask Angie (and others): Polyamide

Angie I have been checking out some layering basics (tanks, tees cardis) from more upmarket places than usual for me, and wondering what is the distinctive nature of their fabrics. I checked the label and it said it was made of polyamide. In this thread http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-dvf-dress
Dresslover said polyamide is the same as nylon. The fabric seems different to me from cheaper tees.
I can't seem to find a picture that actually shows you what the fabric is like. Aussies, I am thinking Metallicus and Bella Basics.

Any thoughts as to whether it is worth paying the extra expense for this?

Anne, I have had both good and bad experiences with Polymide. I wish I could be more definitive in my answer

I am unsure if it's the same as nylon. I have had VERY good experiences with nylon, actually! Karen Kane's tank tops are nylon and they are excellent items.

I am a fan of manmade fibres because they are so much more stable than natural fibres. Ideally, a mixture of the two is best.

Anne, not sure if this helps, but I just wanted to add that I have several camis from Zara (I don't wear them on their own but as an extra layer under button-downs etc.) that I am very happy with (quality and how they feel on). I just checked and they are 90% polyamide and 10% elastane.

Polyamide is a chemical generic term for many ( poly ) and amide ( being a chemical group ) but don't worry about THAT , LOL. It is a term that is used kinda of generically. Silk and wool are considered polyamides. So is nylon. I am going to assume that this a synthetic and a type of nylon. I find that polyamides in my clothes, pill allot. I have some from ATL and they don't look too great anymore after just a few months and several washings. But Inge has had the exact opposite experience. I think the brand is more important. It is a bit like the cashmere thing. You don't really know how it is going to hold up........

So, I think it is a crap shoot sometimes because Polyamide can mean allot.

Thanks Angie, Inge and Isabel. I am not against Nylon, by the way!

Seems that it is more about brand quality. I'll start another thread with the brand names.
