Dear Angie and all,

Last season I bought a pair of red jeans/skinnies on the end of season sale. I know that you, Angie have moved on from yours a long time ago, and I've not seen many in the forum lately. I do see some on the streets where I live still. I think I have a few more outfits with these jeans up my sleeve, but I'd like to know that I'm not looking like "yesterday's news" in them.

However, I quite like the fit of my red skinnies. If the colored bottom thing is dated, would it be an option to dye it? I could use a pair of black skinnies.

Thank you in advance for all and any input. It's highly appreciated.

ETA: I'm sorry about the confusing lack of instructions for yay/nay!

I just took my hot pink and electric blue skinnies to the consignment store. I am keeping my pastels, nude pink and mint.

I'd be interested to see what anyone else to say, too. I have a pair of red skinnies that I don't plan to give up any time soon, but I guess I might as well know if they're off trend.

I consider my red jeans a neutral. A lot of people are still wearing coloured jeans around here. I think I will be wearing mine quite a bit this fall and winter.

I still like how they look when I see them. Right now not often but that is weather related. I never owned coloured bottoms because I just felt too conspicuous, but I like them on others.

Well, this sounds reassuring How do you wear them nowadays? I'm thinking either with a big sweater for weekends, or with a moto and booties in light taupe for work. As a topper I'd choose a silk blouse or shirt, probably.

I still wear my mustard jeans all the time. Haven't worn my teal jeans lately but not because I think they're dated. Just haven't had that many occasions lately. Colored jeans may not be cutting edge any more but I don't think I'd call them "dated" yet.

I plan on replacing my reds with a wine/burgundy pair if I can find them when cooler weather arrives. I'm wearing the reds less, but they've faded a bit. I still wear my cobalt and white pants regularly.

No one in my circle, except my students, wears colored denim. Not because they've moved on, but because they've never worn them to begin with. They make me supremely happy, and they perk up the multitude of dark toppers in my closet. And I am not the type who would usually draw attention to her bottom half. I have decided that I'm done with skinnies, which makes my burgundy hunt more difficult. Straight cuts.......where are you?

Maybe the main reason for not seeing that many around is the weather? It's been a quite warm and dry summer here for a change, and that might have left the skinnies in people's closets, I guess. Ramya, if you love yours, by all means keep wearing it MaryK, I trust your opinion, this is more than good enough for me.

Beth Ann, we double posted! The skinnies versus straight leg question is another issue. I don't have any other skinnies than these, and prefer straight legs by far in general. But these particular skinnies are probably the most flattering pair of skinnies I've ever put on, so that helps. In general, I totally agree with you on this, though. Good luck finding the straight legged burgundy jean.

I'll bet the answer is "not dated" but also not "new trend."

I still haven't even found a pair of coloured jeans (other than white). Oh - wait - I do have a pair of dark plum/ burgundy jeggings. But jeggings are looking kind of dated themselves!

Suz, I'm probably going to keep these for another season to see if I will be wearing them a lot or not. I put them on tonight to try a couple of outfits, and they still fit & flatter. I agree that skinnies and jeggings are starting to feel dated, even though they probably will stay around for quite a while. All our students wear skinnies, and very little else.

Ingunn, those red jeans look terrific on you, and I know you can make fun outfits with them for fall. I think skinnies are still totally good. They're a new modern classic in my mind!

I'm just tired of jeggings (in particular) -- partially because I end up wearing them so much through the winter (tucked into boots).

I think it's important to keep the red jeans because remember your goal to include playfulness in your wardrobe? They are a key piece in that ambition and yet will work beautifully as a neutral with autumn items.

Thank you, Suz! I agree, they add a little playfulness, and they are also a signature color for me. That's the two main reasons I'm asking about these particular jeans, in fact. Normally, I'm not very concerned about wether anything is dated or not, after all most of my wardrobe is basically classic.

Here are a couple of red and blue outfits I tried tonight. I apologize for the lousy pictures, but there's too little light right now for proper pics. What do you think?

I still plan to wear my colored jeans this fall. I have a very dark pair of green ones as well as burgundy. Then I also have black and grey.

I agree with Suz -- "not new trend, but not dated." And you look amazing in your red jeans, Ingunn!! If you stop wearing them I will come over there and give you a spanking!!

I love the outfits!

All I have is cobalt and oxblood jeans, both in a sort of narrow straight cut. I have been giving them a rest for summer but play to wear them a lot in the Fall and Winter. (I am a late adopter and have only had them since last December! Don't want to give them up yet!) The people I work with have been wearing colored jeans all through the summer.

I think sometimes when Angie says that item X is no longer cutting edge, I quit wearing X immediately. I think this is when X wasn't really me all along, and I am grateful to be able to move on and be current! For instance, this happened when she said some months ago that platform wedges were phasing out. I immediately passed mine on to a thrilled recipient and bought a pair of "refined wedges," yay. The platform wedges were never really me, and I was glad to have an excuse to move on.

Other times my reaction is totally different. I think how I'm not an up-to-the-moment person in my style, and also how my style environment is a certain amount behind what Angie is looking at. This happens when an item is useful, flattering, and "me." I'm much slower to move on then.

Adelfa, I think we're on the same page here. I'm not an early adopter either, and sometimes, when a trend really isn't for me, it's very simple to let go. I'm sure your cobalt and oxblood jeans are very current for at least another season. Both colors are on trend this fall as far as I can tell - and they are lovely, too!

And if red is your color, it is always right. I had a wardrobe "aha" moment, I think while you were gone, that my wardrobe feels better all around if I exclude red (bright, true red).

However I LOVE red and love it on others. DD loves red lipstick and nails, and red shoes and other red accents--it's so funny because as a brunette I'm "supposed" to wear red and as a redhead she's not!

Red is very special for you and I think it is wonderful that you found red skinnies that fit so well.

I don't think coloured jeans were really embraced in a big way here! I have red and cobalt and I have not felt inclined to wear them since last September:). The red don't fit me at the moment:( but I am working on that:). I am going to wait for Spring a d see how I feel. As an aside, they have been popular for boys! Master 10 has a great pair of red skinny jeans and it's a look I have seen many teen boys sporting;)

I'm reading this thread with interest, as I LOVED my colored skinnies last winter. I'm not sure I'm quite as excited about them for this winter - but the weather is a bit warm for them yet also.

I also don't mind that they're not cutting edge. I think I'd rather be a little behind on the trends than really current on them. (Or at least, on the front edge). You know - not super current, but not dated either. Classic, maybe?

But I'm curious to see how they fit, now that I'm nearly 10 pounds heavier. Oy.

If they fit, I think I'll wear them this coming winter.

Adelpha I had to laugh because one of my fave outfits is my red skinnies with platform sandals LOL!
I am not packing mine for FL simply because space is an issue and 4 or 5 pair of pants is max already. But then again, I wore my red jeans more in FL than ever in CA . . . . hmmm.

You rock those red skinnies and should definitely keep them! I like the way Mo pairs them with a casual sweater.

Ingunn: I love the first additional photo you posted, with the navy jacket and white shirt --- very fresh and polished. The second top could be a touch longer, I think, for optimal proportions, although I'm being picky. The second top could work well under a cardi, too.

The jeans fit you beautifully. They are skinnies, but "classic" ones, if that makes sense.
