Ask Angie: (& all) Any of these dresses for me?

I tried your first rec...the first Find below, and it came the closest to working of anything I've tried, but it still isn't the one. This time it is mainly the fabric...now I've learned what Scuba material is. And that a sleeveless Scuba dress is just all wrong for the South! That stuff is so thick and hot it would never work in sleeveless season, and in the winter when it would work, who wants sleeveless?

Have you seen any of these? And would any of them work on my busty, apple, IT self? Not to mention, for unknown reasons, a lot of dresses just turn "little girl" on me. And well, most of them are sleeveless...hoping the material is at least lighter than Scuba. Agh!! Dresses are too hard!

I tried the navy tahari one (there's a pic in my post with the halogen leather jacket). I think the neckline detail is great! I didn't keep it, though, partly because the waist length was wrong for me, but also because I found the fabric a bit clingy, which might be relevant to you. It's a ponte-like material and also lined, and personally I'd find it hot for summer. Lighter than scuba though! I also liked the shoulder shape because it strengthens my weak shoulder line but that means you might NOT like it. I suspect the shoulder line on the Ellen Tracy might do the same.

Of these, I like the floral best for you. The dark floral pattern seems very you, and the chiffon fabric would be light and floaty. Yes it's poly but if the dress is sufficiently floaty it's usually ok.

I am not that familiar with your style Gigi (feel like I should know better). But based on your self-description of IT/Apple/Full Bust, here are some dresses I think might work.

Caslon shirtdress -- v neck is good for fuller bust, mid-section looks forgiving and nothing particularly emphasizes the shoulder line.

Haute HIppie shirtdress -- similar thinking. Not on sale though.

(Wildcard) Leith trapeze dresses -- I think apples look great in dresses like this. The neckline is open enough to suit a fuller bust and it also shows off your shoulder line in a good way. Could also be an epic fail though...

Peri, how apple shaped are you? As a true apple, you generally don't want to define the waist - and all the dresses you've linked to do just that - accept for the Scuba which I suggested because it's forgiving on the midsection. I understand that the fabric won't work in the South though. Thanks for trying.

Thanks, Angie. I think I have apple tendencies, I guess is the best way to put it. Like that's where my extra weight goes, currently about 3 pounds. A little meno-pot. A pooch. I just don't like to accentuate it. And shape wear is out due to pain issues.

I'm afraid you may have helped define my problems finding a dress. The type I linked are the ones I think are pretty, but they aren't the best for me maybe. The ones you linked, I just can't see myself in. Maybe the Vince one if it was a different color.

Peri, only because I have this dress.....you ought to try the EF in the far right of the middle row. It's at Rack now too, I think for about $75. I have it (two, actually) love it and get nothing but compliments. It feels like wearing a night gown it is that comfortable.

Aha. I get it, Peri. I love fit and flares too. They're very pretty. That said, the straighter silhouettes and cocoon styles are pretty in their own way. VERY comfy. Have you ever tried them?

The closest I have is the EF Lantern Dress from last summer...in black. Very similar in shape to the EF jewel neck flare dress above, which is why I didn't consider that one this year. I do like it...medium happy factor.

I will shop with your silhouettes in mind now, just trying to find colors I like. My next big project!
