I love inspiration challenges but we are in the middle of a heat wave. So I must admit I created these outfits at home playing around but did not actually wear them. I consider this a half success: I don’t think either outfit is very evocative of the painting but the second one made me put items together in a new way that I might actually wear some time. By the way the green trousers and camel sandels are brighter in person, I had bad lighting. I rediscovered a very old necklace from a crafts camp just to enhance the earthy feeling; now I’m thinking maybe it’s not completely unwearable for an adult ..? What do you guys think?

Fabulous outfits! I especially like the first outfit on you - the colours are so good together and the colour combination suits you beautifully.

I love your cardi. Looks great in both outfits. I can see the inspiration in the paintings. I think both these paintings are really difficult to capture in an outfit and you did a great job.

The arty necklace looks lovely with the cardigan, maybe you could also wear it with the first outfit sometimes?

I’m always hesitant to wear fuller skirts and dresses with longer cardigans, but I think you were successful with that combination in outfit number one. Now if only I could figure out the outfit formula that makes this special. This might be one for Ask Angie. Don’t want to disturb her vacation.

Leisbeth, both these outfits are extremely good on you. You should put them both on high rotation imho! Including the craft necklace.

Both outfits looks super but I'm particularly fond of the second. The necklace is cute and works quite nicely. Keep both of these in mind for cooler weather!

Wow, thanks everyone. I hadn’t expected such positive feedback. Will put at least the second one in rotation. Maybe try the first one irl too and see if I get used to the unusual color and silhouette combo.
3style: I have the same reservations with outfit 1: longer cardi over A-line skirt feels weird. I think it sort of works because of the fluid fabrics znd the fact that this cardi is shorter in the back, it doesn’t hang very heavily downward.

I especially like #1 - the rusty colored cardi looks terrific over the dress. The arty necklace would look cute with the dress too. Well done!

Love them both, very good matches to the arts shown here! Why not wearing nr 1 IRL, too- perhaps on a moody- cloudy day?

I like these outfits and especially that necklace, definitely suitable for an adult! Moody feel of the outfits perfect for the paintings.

Liesbeth, I think you’re onto something with regard to outfit one working because of the cardigan being shorter in the back. And, I think that plays into “the magic of diagonal lines.” The angle of the vneck is parallel to the angle of the cardigan bottom! I think that repeating the exact diagonal angles which are at roughly 45 degrees counterbalances the double downward movement of the longer cardigan and of the sweater. And you are also right about the fabric, if both pieces were stiffer woven garments, I think it would suddenly be much more formal in an avant-garde way, and much less cozy-artsy.
