Are maxi skirts still on trend?

I live in a mild winter climate and have sewn up this simple knit maxi skirt to wear for my very casual lifestyle. I might add a slim cardi or jean jacket as a topper. I can also change out grey suede booties for black boots. I don't want to look "earth mama" .... A little boho is fine!

I'm not loving this particular one on you, Kathleen - maybe a little too prairie? But I am a poor judge of this style.

I think from what I have seen, maxi skirts that are cut a little slimmer are still on-trend.
I've also noticed a trend towards adding a split to maxi skirts, to show more leg and make it look 'sexier' in some way, but that may not be your aim.

Examples of current on-trend maxi skirts:

I reckon maxi skirts generally look better with a top tucked in. They also seem to be styled most commonly with heels rather than flats. But when wearing flats I'd still suggest tucking the top to balance proportions. Angie did a post on top/skirt proportions awhile ago.

Oh - an further on proportions I like #3 best because the cropped top balances proportions better and isn't so elongating. I think your idea of a fitted denim jacket would be great, maybe with a tucked-in fitted tank.

I am not a lover of midi skirts and this style is a little prairie but I do like the way you have styled this. #1 creates a lovely long line on you. I like Jenava's suggestion.

Thanks everyone for your replies. After considering the feedback, I am thinking this is a very occasional look for me now. The drift into prairie is a slippery slope. A snugger knit skirt may be a better choice but it reveals more lumps and bumps:/

Hi, that's a very versatile maxi skirt and with the right accessories you will not look like "earth mama" you also need to consider proportions. You look like a tall gal (if not, the skirt make you tall) and you can get away with all 3 ways you posted. I particularly like best #3. The proportions are great and the cardi looks contemporary.

I love maxi skirts but generally, I wear them with tops tucked in. Honestly, the first look is the most "earth-mamaish" of all three. I like your suggestion with a jean jacket, that would look great. Also, you can pair it with a floppy hat and a chunky sweater or a big knitted scarf (not sure how mild your winters are). I quite like the last look - you might try tucking the cardi in (provided it doesn't create a lump underneath) and put the belt from the first look on it.

I think it works really well when you keep the visual waist high, like with the black cardigan. When you wear a long top it makes it drop-waisted which generally reads super casual, boho, hippie... earth mama, as you said haha. But with a shorter top, or with a top tucked in and a cardigan or belt over it to mask the waistband it looks awesome!
