Another day. Another dress. - YouLookFab Forum

This is a new style for me and has more fabric and drama than I usually wear. The material and comfort are soft and cozy. What do you think of this style? Fun? Fussy? Flamenco?
My students liked the dress. They have Halloween on the brain and at first glance thought I had on a witch’s dress with a spider web pattern on the top. Hahaha! Oh, gosh.........I am thinking the black tights and booties may have added to that impression.
The first pic shows the dress with a belt added. Second pic is with my black denim jacket. I ended up wearing both with the dress today.
I think perhaps a cropped jacket would be good and sheer black hose, or maybe even.....would I dare wear white ankle boots? Too 60s Go Go Girl?
Your thoughts please. All comments and suggestions are welcome. I really don’t want to look like I am wearing a costume.

I love it ,you look fabulous not at all costume y.Its a fun skirt but the black sobers it down and it really suits your body shape .

Spectacular! Love this to pieces. You could totally do white boots -- they would pick up the lighter elements in the top half nicely, not to mention bookending your hair.

I like it! The grey/ white top part softens it and the skirt is so flouncy and fun. It does have a bit of "flamenco" flavour but what is wrong with that?

The belt is also pretty cool! And I do think you could do white or silver booties really well with this! I might switch out the hose to more sheer or sheer grey or nude toned in that case.

Thank you for the vote about the white boots, LaPed. I don’t have a pair, but my eye keeps being drawn to them and I have been considering a pair with several outfits.
Thank you Suz. I hadn’t really thought of gray, but you are right. That would soften the severity of the black, too. I just ordered a pair of pewter booties, with a bit of shine on them. I will try those with gray or sheer hose. I think that will be a really nice combo.

I give this a big thumbs up. It is flattering and chic, and has a dramatic flair without going over the top. It also feels authentic to you, and I don’t get a costume vibe at all. I like both options you show. The first feels more sophisticated and the second is more fun. What kind of bag did you carry? I envisision something with a pop of color, perhaps.

Thank you, Angie! 80s rah! Rah!! Oh yes, I do dress up for Halloween and I am not alone. Our entire K-8 school dresses up. Grades 1-8 march through town and treat the locals, visitors and any cruise ship passengers, in town for the day, to a Halloween Parade, complete with police escort and marching band. The K students only walk as far as the town office and watch the parade as we pass by. Businesses close for the short time we are out on the street. Many of the people along the Parade route dress up, too. It is a fun time!

Kyle, if I had been wearing his dress out and about I would have pulled out a colorful bag. As I was going to school, I carried my briefcase and a black Longchamp backpack to get from point A to point B.

I think the skirt looks great. Not costumey. I can't comment on the white booties. I've been contemplating a pair for myself but I'm still not sure how to style them.

The dress is wonderful on you! Don’t take the kiddos seriously about the witch stuff. Mine thought anyone with grey hair was a witch, especially if it is long. I had a pair of rather clunky black pointy toed heeled brogues that they thought were witch shoes.

Hahaha, thank you Joy. The kids keep me entertained and laughing. Even with my lighter hair I still wear a lot of black, so I think it was the design on the top of the dress that reminded them of spider webs (and it probably helped that we were reading a book about spiders and it was a dark and gloomy day). Some of these kids think I am young, because my name is Mrs. Young. Precious and priceless.

Love this dress on you. I love the drama and fun of it. It is a beautiful fit. Have you got red boots or shoes? I think they could look wonderful with this dress as it is the sort of dress that would not be overwhelmed by statement shoes.

Pretty dress - and quite "flirty" , but in a good , fun, way I like it best without the jacket, just to show off the pattern on the bodice. I like white boots with simpler silhouettes, but that's just a personal thing. You never know until you try ! Happy Hallowe'en !

Bijou, I do have red flats and think I will try those with a pair of black fishnet stockings. I have red boots, but they are cowboy boots......I can’t get my mind around wearing those with the flouncy skirt of the dress.
Angie, I’ll see what I can do........lots of photo ops. The local newspaper usually does a full page colored spread. Small town community spirit! Lisa P you make a good point about the white boots.....I keep thinking I might really wear them, but perhaps not with this dress.
