Anniversary Sale Wish-List - Rosie

Since today is the day before the big sale, I thought I'd ask people what's on their list? I have only browsed the catalog online, so I'm sure my list will grow or change when I see all the merchandise! Also, I need to study Angie's post from this morning to make sure I'm hitting the right areas and buying what I should be.

I know I am going to get the Spanx Geometric Stripe Tights, almost $15 off full price. They look much more interesting than basic black, and I know they will last!

Oddly, I didn't see any clothing in the catalog I loved, except for the Classiques Entiers leather jacket. Sadly, I think I have decided that I need to stop buying jackets of that cut because I'm quite busty.

I want to get a closer look at the Tulah Ray bag, as I think it looks interesting and the color looks beautiful. I also love the Nanette Lepore French Maid Booties, I'm thinking in Charcoal.

Not a part of the sale, but I really want the Suzy Chin Maggie Boutique Wrap Dress - gorgeous!

Cosmetics: I absolutely love Trish McEvoy, and I highly encourage everyone to check out her counter if you have one. If you like being organized, then Trish is for you. I know I am getting the Little Black Card, and potentially the Double Zip Planner, depending on whether the items are full sized. If they are, it's a great deal and I already wear the basics in there.

What's on your list? If you don't know specifics, what from Angie's list are you going to focus on?

I like the cropped tweed jacket on page 9 and want to try it on.

I'm also looking for a pencil skirt with fun detail, maybe a full length zipper in the front - kinda like the one on page 6, but not exactly this skirt. (I tried a Nine West stretch pencil skirt with a zipper all the way down the front last week and loved the look, though wasn't in love with the beige color of the skirt.)

Finally, I could be tempted with boots and/or a coat.

Oh, and what I really NEED for fall are jeans. But I think the anniversary sale will be too crazy for me for that purpose; I'll need time and less crowds for that. I'll wait till August for the big denim project...

Jeans-straight/skinny (my first pair!)
Boots (brown boots that I could wear with above jeans)
Handbag-I have my eye on the dark purple one in the catalog.
Chantelle demi bra
Maybe some MAC makeup
I also love the spanx tights, but I don't know when or how I'd wear them.

Never fear, there is going to be SO MUCH MORE on sale than what you see in the catalogue. Nice lists so far.

My list is long, and if I come home with one of these tomorrow, I’ll be happy:

o Black skinnies – jeans or pants
o Chestnut knee-high slouchy boots (low heel). I’ll look at ALL the shoes. I always do. My fussy feet demand it.
o Cream casual puffer jacket. Mine is on its last legs and I have been trying to replace it for 2 years
o I always look at coats, jackets, skirts and blouses
o A printed cashmere scarf
o A red handbag. Mine is falling apart. I’m extremely fussy with handbags and don’t hold out much hope for this one, but will give it a bash. It’s got to be the right shade of bright red.

Antje - that jacket is really cool. I hope you like it! I also think that style skirt is so interesting. Maybe you will like the tweed better than the Nine West version. I can also understand not wanting to try on hundreds of jeans amidst the frenzy!

Sarbear - first pair! Exciting! I may get some if I can find some that work. I'd love boots as well, but I think I need to special order them as my calves are short and athletic. MAC has some cool new colors, although I have to say their anniversary offering didn't really do anything for me. Did you mean the Nordstrom brand dark purple tote? It's really lovely. I might have to look at that one, too. Great work bag...and it would go with the shirt I am wearing today...hmm...

Hee hee. Comfortable shoes are definitely a good idea.

I do dress pretty deliberately when I go shopping, depending on what I'm looking for. If I'm primarily looking for tops, for instance, I make sure I'm wearing a top that's super easy to take off and put back on (no layering, belting etc.) and I wear bottoms that represent the look I'm after, e.g. I might wear skinnies if I'm hoping to find a great tunic length top. And when I'm primarily looking for bottoms, I'll wear a relatively basic top so I don't get distracted in the mirror.

I never wear a dress when going shopping, so I won't find myself in the dressing with just half of my body dressed.

So overall, I want to wear unfussy and versatile clothes when out shopping, but I also want to represent my style, which can be helpful when you have sales reps assisting you. I want them to see that I like a funky look rather than a super classy one, etc. I'm most likely to wear jeans, a versatile top (which for me could be a black v-neck sleeveless top with some detail) and then some fun earrings and bag for the hip and funky factor. Does that make sense?

Angie - great list! I need to really sit down and evaluate my closet, instead of just go for the "bright shiny objects" that I like but may not make any friends in my closet. Your slouchy boots are a good idea for me, if I can find a nice and wide pair. If I do end up getting some skinny jeans (during the sale or another time) I think those might balance my proportions better than regular knee-highs.

The crowds are terrifying for me and I am considering shopping online and maybe will try the store next week

I will be mainly looking for:
- fall-appropriate trench coat
- straight leg jeans
- cashmere scarf (I think they sometimes have their Nordstrom brand discounted)

I'd check out shoes too, but that section gets so crazy! I must admit I am not smitten by anything in the catalog. There are a few things that look good but not right for my lifestyle.

rosebudrmm, I'm drooling over the bag on page 4. It's way out of my price range (if I am going to purchase anything else), but I like it a lot.
I love the Facade boots on page 8 (I'm wondering though if I should stick with a flatter heel?)
I like the Hudson Stella jeans on page 9. I want to follow Angie's advice though and get a better pair to wear with heels, and get a less expensive pair to tuck into boots.
I like all of the shoes on page 25.
What do you all think of the outfit on page 47? Like for a weekend at my in laws or something?
I'll look at the MAC makeup, but I'll only get it if I'm really impressed.
And I love both outfits on page 79 for my husband. Yum!

Rosebud, I adore your name. And good slouchy boots analogy, That’s exactly right. But watch out for mega horizontal detailing - that’s widening. Opt for a chunky heel too.

I dress for the shop as well. Easy to take off streamlined separates, ballet flats, enough layers to sample coats, a cami and carry socks in my bag for boot trying.

Sarbear - we love the same bag! It is definitely not cheap...I don't know whether I want them to have it in the store or not because I don't want to fall in love! Those Facade boots are really hot. I wonder how comfortable the heel is, though...it looks pretty high and skinny. I'm drooling over the shoes...that outfit is cute and casual. I wish they showed it on someone over than 12, though...

Antje -ha ha, I know what you mean about being half dressed when you wear a dress to shop! It is easy to take on and off, but really doesn't help you figure out whether a top would work with your bottoms, or vice versa.

Marianne - these days, it seems like shopping online makes sense, especially if you can return in the store! Do you consider yellow fall-appropriate? :)~ I love this Michael Kors trench, but it's probably not the color you are looking for:

tall dressy boots (probably black) - with our short winters and the number of boots I bought last year, I'm trying to stick to one pair this year
booties - this is where I'm going to give myself a little lee-way in the boot department for the fall
other shoes
a fab handbag - I too am very particular in this area so I don't have my hopes up

I would love to look at denim but I am going to try to make this the bottom priority as I don't really *need* any.

I wasn't too taken with anything in the catalog but I did like the Semantiks tweedy skirt. I hope to just try some stuff and have fun.

You’re going to make tops, TOP priority little rectangular, Patience! You’ll have fun with Ana tomorrow, even if you merely observe and come home and shop online.

I love bright colours in Autumn and Winter, but a bright yellow trench in a non-woolly fabric like that seems Spring-like. Pop the same colour into a warm handle fabric and you’re in business, Rosebud.

I understand your in-law outfit dilemma Sarbear. The concept of the outfit on page 25 is sweet with a casual shoe. That T-shirt is borderline teenybopper though. Beware.

I don't really need any fall gear that I haven't already researched and picked specific items out, so if I come across any of those, I will snap them up. Otherwise, generally I'll be looking for:

-cream skinny/straight leg jeans

-sweaters and sweater jackets to wear with tops I already have in my closet

-accessories (shoes, handbags, gloves, watches--I want a chunky cream watch)

-I don't need any more tops, but if there were a fabulous one at a good price, I would probably pick it up if I didn't find anything else on my list.

-a black blazer

Sarah--the sale goes through Sunday, August 3, so I will probably hit the sale again that weekend (if there is anything left), since I get my allowance on August 1. Would that work for you? Patience too?

I will be shopping online for coats, in the petite department! Of course I will have a look at shoes to see what, if anything, is available in extra wide.

Rosie, you mention special ordering boots because of short, muscular calves. My problem exactly. Will you be ordering from Nordstrom? Or what is your source, if you don't mind sharing? I have ordered three pairs of boots so far, and I was able to zip up only one because of my short, muscular calves (the widest part of my calf falls below the widest part of the boot).

Aahh, Becky, I don't have one. It seems like more places are coming out with extended calf boots, but mine are quite big. To be honest, though, I haven't tried too many kinds. I have actually had success at Target with some stretchy materials, but I think it's important to stick to suede (or faux) instead of fake leather there because otherwise they look kinda cheap. At Christmas I finally found a pair I really love at Marina Rinaldi. They only carry size 9+, and they just fit my 8.5/9 feet. The style is a light rough-out leather cowboy boot that is actually really slim and long and lean. So, they don't work with everything, but they nip in at the ankles enough for me and are plenty wide without being loose at the calf. If you can wear a 9, check them out...but be ready to spend.

I have been thinking about trying Duo boots, as people have suggested on here. I just don't have any clue what the quality is like or the fit of the shoe. Otherwise, I think I will try Zappos, Nordstrom, perhaps J Crew.

White jeans - I REALLY want a pair. Since I am a 16 or so, though, there aren't that many pairs out there. I tried a NYDJ and they came up to almost my chest. I hardly like pants at my waist, let alone my bra. I did love the long line of the leg, though. I doubt these will be on sale tomorrow, though, so I'll keep looking.

Angie, I have a weather/location question stemming from the yellow trench...I think I will start a new thread, though.

I don't have a Nordstrom in my area so I will be shopping online. Does anyone know if the selection will be as good online as it is in the stores? I'm specifically looking for boots (may start a new thread actually) and maybe some sweaters. I am pretty much starting from scratch for my fall wardrobe so I'm a bit overwhelmed at the moment. I know I definitely have knee high boots on my list and probably some straight/skinny jeans. I don't plan to order these online though as I haven't tried any on and would just be guessing at my sizes. I also want an A-line denim skirt for the fall.

Angie, I have a terrible memory these days...have you done a preview of items for the fall? I don't really have a starting point for my fall list. I better get cracking on that.

I may have to give Duo boots a spin as well since my calves are muscular. I think I'll go start that other thread now

This sale will be dangerous as I have almost nothing that fits from last fall/winter. That means a coat. I'd like to find a red, eggplant, or chocolate knee length with princess styling that I could wear without a belt or add my own. I'd also like a black trench that could be dressed up or down. I bought a parka at the end of the season that should still be ok.
I need casual pants, but probably not too many jeans. I'd love to find skinny/straight microchecks in black and white or navy and white. Jackets! Some colorful flat enclosed shoes! Maybe a suit or jacket and pencil skirt. (I like to have a capsule to fall back on for making a presentation to a group or for a funeral. In the past it was an ink suit with thin babyblue stripe.)
Are shirt styled blouses layered over camies still fashionable? That style works well for me.

I also want a long cardi (boyfriend cardigan) for fall, though I don't feel I need to look for that at the Nordie sale. I'm sure there'll be plenty of options later at other stores.

A boyfriend cardi is also on my list, Antje. I found a short sleeved version from J. Crew that I like, since it will be warm down here.
