I have a number of favorite silhouettes. Yesterday, I wore a wrap dress over jeans with a long cardigan. Today, I picked another favorite silhouette, Jean's, a turtleneck, and boots. Looking at my choices, it's helpful to think in terms of statement pieces and essentials pieces. Most of my turtlenecks are simple, unadorned and I would call them essentials. Today's turtleneck, a color blocked, two tone grey cashmere with white piping, from Boden, is a statement item. I adore this turtleneck for its interesting details and because it is soft, light, fresh, and derived from a classic. It's practical and perhaps sleek although it is verging on oversized. It has movement and texture. It is simple but interesting. I tried wearing it with a very slight partial tuck to give it some added structure and to expose some of the buttons on my Jean's. I like the look but I like it untucked as well.

I picked my grey J Brand Harper straight leg crop Jean's today mostly because I wore blue Jean's yesterday, and I like variety. I paired them with my navy square toe aquatalia ankle boots (purchased from NAS this year) and very warm long wool socks with pattern colors that echo the two toned grey of my sweater and the reddish pink of my glasses. It makes me happy when things coordinate like that --even when no one else can see them. These jeans feel fresh and updated, and in my wardrobe are probably a statement item because they are not my standard essential skinny silhouette. I like the textural interest and metallic sheen of the button fly and how it breaks up the sea of otherwise continuous soft material.

For accessories, I picked my red glasses frames which look good with today's workplace nametag. I picked some fun squiggle hoop earrings and as always some bangles, one of which is from my Aunt. I thought the silver and yellow bangle worked well with this outfit. It was a subtle bit of color, and along with my glasses and nametag felt like enough. I admit to enjoying the subtle hint of reverie to my alma mater with my "blue" boots and "maize" bracelet.

No makeup today because I had a dermatologist appointment before heading to work.

Finally, here is a case where even though I love everything and am very content with the outfit, I might be even happier if the Aquatalia boots were a lighter blue or grey. They did not make them in that style and color in a water/weatherproof version, and these are JFE. Sometimes JFE is perfect, and enough to make me happy.

Cheers it's me!
